The auto-hailing app Namma Yatri, operating in the bustling city of Bengaluru, has proven to be a game-changer in the local transportation industry.
Since its launch in November of the previous year, it has been making significant waves, not only in terms of its earnings but also in its unique approach to serving both auto drivers and passengers.
Bengaluru Auto Drivers Earn Rs. 189 Crores Through Namma Yatri
Namma Yatri’s standout feature is its substantial earnings, having generated ₹189 crore for its affiliated auto drivers. This achievement positions it as a formidable rival to established cab aggregators like Ola and Uber, providing a dependable income source for Bengaluru’s auto drivers.
What truly sets Namma Yatri apart from its competitors is its commission-free model. In a social media post by Tina Gurnaney, an ONDC employee, it was highlighted that Namma Yatri ensures that 100% of the earnings go directly to the drivers. This is in stark contrast to the standard practice in the industry, where large aggregators charge substantial commissions.
Even with a conservative estimate of a 10% commission rate to these industry giants, Namma Yatri has collectively saved its drivers approximately ₹19 crore in commissions. This zero-commission approach has not only made it financially beneficial for drivers but also positions it as a platform with a genuine commitment to the welfare of its drivers.
Namma Yatri USP: Government Set Pricing
Namma Yatri’s inception is also notable due to the ongoing challenges within the transport sector. Ola and Uber have been under scrutiny for imposing high fees on customers, especially for short trips covering less than 2 kilometers. This situation raised concerns about the affordability of ride-hailing services for many commuters.
Namma Yatri stepped into this scenario as a viable alternative, connecting passengers directly with auto drivers. By doing so, the app aimed to provide affordable fares for customers by eliminating any intermediaries who might increase the cost of transportation.
Another noteworthy feature of Namma Yatri is its adherence to government-set pricing. Unlike other ride-hailing platforms, Namma Yatri follows a transparent pricing model established by government authorities. For instance, the minimum fare for trips up to 2 kilometers is fixed at ₹30, with additional charges of ₹15 per kilometer for longer distances. Furthermore, a nominal booking fee of ₹10 is applied to each trip. Interestingly, the platform also allows drivers the flexibility to increase this booking charge to ₹30, providing them with some autonomy over their earnings.
