A disconcerting incident has been reported in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, where an iPhone is said to have detonated inside the pocket of a businessman, adding to the ongoing concerns surrounding smartphone safety.

Apple iPhone Explodes Inside Businessman's Pocket In Uttar Pradesh; Suffers Minor Burns

The specific iPhone variant responsible for the explosion remains undisclosed.

iPhone Blast Reported in Uttar Pradesh

The incident occurred within the confines of the businessman’s residence and seems to have been triggered by internal factors, as no external causes have been identified.

The individual at the center of this alarming incident is Prem Raj Singh, a 47-year-old real estate businessman residing in Aligarh. Singh’s encounter with the explosive episode involved his iPhone suddenly igniting while snugly positioned in his pocket. According to his account, the sequence of events began with a perceptible rise in temperature emanating from the device, rapidly accompanied by the emergence of smoke. The unforeseen explosion resulted in burn injuries to Singh’s left thigh and thumb, necessitating his immediate hospitalization to address the wounds.

As recounted by Singh, “I took it out of my pocket and it exploded with a loud sound following which it broke into two pieces.” Notably, this incident seems to defy the common contributing factors to smartphone explosions, such as charging or overheating due to prolonged usage. Instead, the explosion occurred spontaneously, devoid of any discernible external stimuli.

iPhone Model Remains Undisclosed

Singh has verified that the smartphone involved in the incident is an Apple iPhone, although specific details regarding the model remain undisclosed. Judging from the provided image, the appearance closely resembles that of older models like the iPhone 8 or iPhone 7. Singh, who has been an iPhone user for over a decade, has expressed a significant loss of faith in the company’s product quality following this distressing event. The explosive nature of the incident led to the iPhone fragmenting into distinct front and back pieces, displaying severe burn marks and signs of complete combustion.

This occurrence is reminiscent of a previous instance documented in 2021, where an iPhone X caused second-degree burns to an individual in Melbourne. The recurrence of such incidents raises concerns about the safety and stability of smartphone technology, especially given their ubiquitous presence in modern society. As investigations continue into this latest episode, questions about the underlying causes and potential preventive measures remain paramount.
