A businessman in Pune reportedly discharged his licensed firearm following a dispute with a pizza delivery driver and manager regarding a delayed delivery. The 28-year-old individual, Chetan Vasant Padwal, who owns a stone-crushing business, has been apprehended on various charges, including attempted culpable homicide. The incident unfolded on Monday night within the Ozone Villas residential community in Pune’s Wagholi area. The complaint was filed by Rohit Hulsure, a 22-year-old manager at a local branch of an international pizza chain.
The Confrontation Over a Delayed Pizza Delivery: Altercation at Padwal’s Residence
At approximately 10:30 pm, Padwal placed an order for pizza, with delivery driver Rahul Ghorpade assigned to the task. Ghorpade and another co-worker, Rushikesh Annapurve, decided to jointly deliver the order, as they intended to share a motorcycle for their trip back home. Upon arriving at Padwal’s residence a little after 11 pm, an altercation erupted over the delayed delivery, during which Padwal reportedly verbally abused and physically assaulted the delivery personnel.
Subsequently, the delivery drivers contacted Hulsure to report the incident. Shortly afterward, Hulsure, along with two colleagues from the pizza outlet and the two delivery drivers, visited Padwal’s residence to address the situation.
Armed Confrontation and Charges Against Padwal After Pizza Delivery Dispute
According to the filed report, Padwal engaged in an argument with Hulsure and allegedly assaulted him as well. As stated in the report, Padwal then retrieved a pistol from his car and discharged a single round into the air. Fortunately, no injuries were sustained during this incident.
Padwal is facing charges of attempted culpable homicide, as authorities believe that the fired bullet posed a potential risk to anyone in the vicinity, particularly residents of upper floors in the housing complex. Additionally, he has been charged with causing harm intentionally and making criminal threats. Inspector Vishwajeet Kaingade, who oversees the Lonikand police station, confirmed that Padwal possessed a valid license for the registered firearm used in the incident.
