Amazon made an announcement this Tuesday informing that Prime Video will commence showing limited advertisements during movies and TV shows starting June 17, 2025, in India.

Prime Supporting Continued Investment in Content
The company claimed that this move is intended to support continued investment in content.
Further, they added that the ad volume will be lower than what users see on traditional TV channels and other streaming platforms.
This is not the first time as the streaming service provider has already introduced these services in the United States of America and a few other markets back in 2024.
Prime users should note here that there won’t be any change in the current price of Prime membership.
In case you are wondering about an optional ad-free plan then Amazon will be offering an optional ad-free plan at Rs 699 per year or Rs 129 per month which is available to users who can subscribe starting the same day.
How Does It Affect The Existing Prime Users?
In addition to this all the other Prime benefits will remain unchanged.
For the users who do not wish to continue their membership after these changes take effect then they can also cancel their plan and request a pro-rated refund through their Amazon account settings.
When it comes to Prime, Amazon offers different tiers of Prime membership in India.
For instance, Prime Shopping Edition costs Rs 399 per year, Prime Lite is priced at Rs 799 per year, and its standard Prime membership costs Rs 1,499 per year.
Its standard plan offers all the benefits including Prime Video (with ads), Amazon Music, and more.
The users can access Prime on their smartphones, tablets, computers, and smart TVs, and besides this the app is available on almost every major operating system.
With Prime Lite, it limits the streaming resolution to 720p while its regular subscription offers content with up to 4K resolution.
Presently, Prime Video offers movies and web series along with live sports streaming.
Besides this, the platform also allows users to access other OTT services like Apple TV+, LionGate Play, Discovery+, and more for additional cost.
With its latest move, the users who areseeking a premium streaming experience with ad-free access and up to 4K quality will need to spend up to Rs 2,798 per year.
In comparison with JioCinema Premium (Hotstar), it is slightly more but significantly less than Netflix, which charges Rs 649 per month for its 4K ad-free subscription.
