Amazon Expands Workforce Across India
Amazon India has created more than 1.6 lakh seasonal work opportunities ahead of the 2026 festive shopping season, as the e-commerce giant prepares for a sharp increase in orders across the country.
The opportunities span Amazon’s operations network across 400 cities, covering both major metropolitan areas and Tier-2 and Tier-3 locations.
Jobs Across Fulfilment and Delivery
The seasonal workforce will support key parts of Amazon’s e-commerce and quick-commerce operations. Workers will be involved in activities including picking, packing, shipping and delivering customer orders.
Most of the new associates have already been onboarded and are undergoing training ahead of the expected festive rush. This allows Amazon to increase operational capacity before order volumes begin to peak.
Hiring Reaches Tier-2 and Tier-3 Cities
The hiring programme is not limited to India’s largest cities. Amazon said the opportunities extend to locations including Varanasi, Kochi, Jalandhar, Ghaziabad, Ranchi, Salem and Gorakhpur.
The expansion reflects the growing importance of smaller cities to India’s online shopping market, where rising internet access, digital payments and e-commerce adoption are bringing more consumers into the festive shopping economy.
Focus on Inclusive Employment
Amazon said the expanded workforce also includes opportunities for thousands of women and persons with disabilities.
The company sees the seasonal hiring programme as part of its effort to build a larger and more inclusive operations network while ensuring that deliveries can keep pace with increased customer demand.
Many Workers Could Continue Beyond the Festive Season
Although these are seasonal opportunities, Amazon says the relationship does not necessarily end once the festive shopping period is over.
Some seasonal associates continue working with the company beyond the peak period, while others return during subsequent festive seasons. This creates a recurring pool of trained workers who can help Amazon scale operations when demand rises again.
Festive Season Creates a Wider Hiring Wave
Amazon’s hiring comes amid a broader employment surge across India’s e-commerce, logistics, quick-commerce and organised retail sectors.
Other platforms are also increasing their seasonal workforce as businesses prepare for higher demand for electronics, fashion, groceries, gifts and other consumer products.
