8th Pay Commission Not In Plans?

The Narendra Modi administration may decide not to convene the 8th Pay Commission at all, according to reports.

To guarantee that central government workers get timely wage and pension changes, a new system may be used.

According to a report by NDTV Profit, the government may use this new system in place of conventional pay commissions.

NC-JCM’s staff side secretary, Shiv Gopal Mishra, acknowledged that a new strategy may be used.

In a recent letter to the Union Cabinet Secretary, the National Council (Staff Side) Joint Consultative Machinery (NC JCM) called for the establishment of a new pay commission.

Nine years have passed since the 7th CPC recommendations were put into practice, NC JCM stressed in a letter dated December 3.

Next Salary, Pension Revision Scheduled on January 1, 2026

The next salary and pension revision is scheduled on January 1, 2026, the NC JCM emphasized.

In his letter, Shiv Gopal Mishra emphasized the long-standing practice of updating salaries, perks, pensions, and allowances every ten years—a practice that has been in place since the Fourth Pay Commission in 1986.

January 2016 saw the implementation of the recommendations made by the 7th Pay Commission.

To guarantee prompt implementation, a new pay commission has traditionally been created every ten years.

There is increasing expectation that a new panel will be established shortly and submit its findings by January 2026.

But according to a recent statement from the Union Finance Ministry, no proposal for an eighth central pay commission is being considered.

There are no intentions to start the process for the next pay commission, the Minister of State for Finance, Pankaj Chaudhary, said in the Rajya Sabha.
