5 Year Old FASTags Will Stop Working; KYC Update Must For 3 Year Old FASTAgs (Check New FASTag Rules)

Starting August 1, 2024, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has introduced new rules for FASTag users to streamline toll payment processes and reduce congestion at toll booths.

  1. Replacement of 5-Year-Old FASTags: All FASTags that are over five years old must be replaced by the issuing authority on a best-effort basis. This ensures that the tags remain functional and up-to-date with current technology standards.
  2. Re-KYC for 3-Year-Old FASTags: Users with FASTags issued three years ago are required to update their KYC details. This re-KYC process will need to be completed every three years to maintain the validity of the FASTag.
  3. Linking Vehicle Details: It is now mandatory to link the vehicle’s registration number and chassis number to the FASTag. This helps in ensuring the proper identification of vehicles and preventing misuse.
  4. New Vehicle Registration Update: When purchasing a new vehicle, owners must update the registration number with the FASTag within 90 days. This ensures that the FASTag is correctly linked to the new vehicle.
  5. Database Verification: FASTag providers are now required to verify their databases regularly to ensure that all linked details are accurate and up-to-date.
  6. Photo Upload Requirement: Clear, high-quality photos of the car’s front and side must be uploaded by the FASTag providers. This will aid in the identification of vehicles at toll plazas.
  7. Mobile Number Linking: It is mandatory for each FASTag to be linked to a mobile number to ensure seamless communication, including alerts and updates.
