5 Mistakes That Can Reject Your Car Insurance Claim

Before filing the claim, check these 5 mistakes that can get car insurance claim rejected: 

  • No license or using fake one: In case someone is driving without a valid license or for that matter, using a fake one, then this can have severe repercussions on the car insurance claim. Insurance coverage in this case can be denied and in addition to these legal penalties can be incurred. Other possibilities include an increase in premiums or cancellation in policies, and once one is marked as a high-risk driver then, future coverage may be difficult to obtain.
  • Not informing insurance company: One must inform the damage to the company immediately and should not fix the car on own. This is because the companies cannot evaluate the damage and insurance companies don’t cover this since some miscreants can employ this technique to take unfair financial advantage of the company.
  • Not obeying laws: Driving under a state of intoxication or jumping a red light in case of having an accident causes trouble while trying to claim the damage and the authorities can reject your claim as well. 
  • Illegal Modifications: It is imperative for a car owner to inform about car modifications (if any) to the insurance company. This is because some insurance companies, when informed, allow the addition of the cost of modifications to the IDV value. However, not disclosing the same can land your claim in trouble while claiming the value of modifications in case of 
  • Delaying Accident report: Delaying the submission of accident report post the accident can also potentially cause the insurance companies to reject their claims. One must inform the insurance companies about the accident and later get their cars fixed, rather than the other way around.
