Multi Screen Media (MSM) today announced launch of its online digital entertainment destination – Sony LIV.
Sony LIV is a online and mobile based video-on-demand service that brings all the favorite TV shows like Comedy Circus, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah and others from Sony channels like Sony, Sab and Max.
According to the press release sent to us, Sony LIV will not only have all prior episodes from the existing Sony TV shows, but also ones from the past called LIV classics. Viewers can watch episodes from all-time favorites like Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin, Kkusum, Heena, Boogie Woogie, Movers & Shakers, Office Office.In addition to it, LIV classics will also showcase a large archive going back seventeen years of movies and special events like Stardust and Filmfare Awards.
Sony LIV – Our Take
Prima Facie, Sony LIV is a very good effort from MGM. With mobile devices like smartphone & tablets popularity going through the roof and internet connectivity getting faster, there is definitely a huge market for consumption localized Indian entertainment content.
As far as the site goes, I personally did not like the black and pink-ish kind of the theme of Sony LIV. To be honest it looks quite amateurish for a brand like Sony. But I do understand the mindset behind that – It is made keeping in mind actual consumers who will be frequenting this site. It will be mostly females and younger crowd, who may find it appealing.
From the features perspective, the site has nearly everything. It has proper categorization of shows, movies and various events. It also has a mood wheel, which allows users to choose the show depending on the mood he / she is on. Users can create their own playlists of various episodes so they enjoy the entire show uninterrupted. Sony LIV also has features that will ensure community building around the site.
The best part is that Sony LIV has created apps for iPhone, iPad as well as Android devices. And looking at the ratings and comments from the users, the apps seem to be well made by Sony.
This sure is an excellent effort from MGM to bring digital entertainment on devices of user’s choice and should attract good amount of consumer following.
