Honda Activa Electric Will Have Swappable Batteries: Rs 1.2 Lakh Expected Price?
Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India, Private Limited is the latest to jump on the wagon of automakers to launch an electric motorcycle. This motorcycle will be an electric version of the company’s most popular motorcycle – Activa.
The demand for electric vehicles in India, especially bikes, has now been on a steady rise, and the government has been pushing for the use of electric automobiles as well.
Read on to find out all the details about Honda’s new electric Activa.
Honda To Launch Electric Version Of Activa
Honda’s plans of introducing the electric version of the Activa were confirmed by the Honda Motorcycle and Scooter President, Atsushi Ogata at an interview. He stated that an EV priduct from HMSI, specifically for India is under development presently.
The price of the Active electric hasnt been announced yet, but it will probably be somewhere between the range of Rs 1.25 to Rs 1.40 lakh with the battery pack included. Once launched, the bike will compete against Bounce Infinity E1, Bajaj Chetak, Ola S1, Ather 450X, and Hero Electric scooters.
The battery on the bike will be similar to that of the Bounce Infinity E1 electric scooter, which was the “Battery as a Service” model.
Electric Activa To Come With Swappable Batteries
While the launch of this new product is not expected until 2023, news is that the bike will come with swappable batteries.
This means that the owners of the new electric bike will be able to exchange their batteries, i.e., you can remove the depleted battery and replace it with a fully charged battery at Honda’s battery swap stations. You can also charge the battery at your house.
There will be two options for customers – one where they will be required to pay a membership fee or a small charge to replace their battery with charged batteries. Or else, they can buy a battery pack that can be charged and replaced when the old one is depleted.
The electric bike will be quite similar to the current model in terms of design language, but will most likely come with a more futuristic touch. The current model comes with an all-metal body, but as electric bikes are already heavy due to the battery, the electric version will come with a metal body or not is yet to be seen.
