Punch, Tata’s Rs 5 Lakh SUV Becomes Safest Indian Car; Gets 5-Star In Global NCAP Test
Tata Punch has become India’s safest car after scoring a full 5-star rating from Global NCAP.
It scored 16.45 out of 17 points for adult safety, becoming the third Tata model to get a 5-Star rating in the category.

Third Tata Car Achievement
The other two Tata models to receive the recognition are Altroz in January 2020 and Nexon in December 2018.
It also surpassed the Mahindra XUV 300, which was the leader till now with 16.42 score.
It was put through crash testing by the safety rating agency and came out on top for adult occupant protection.
Size Matters Not
It may not come as a huge surprise given Tata’s recent track record and its commitment towards building safer cars.
But it is laudable since it is an entry-level and small-sized car- outperforming the Nexon and Altroz.
It also got 40.89 out of 49 points for child occupant safety, making it the second Indian car to achieve the feat.
How Passengers Are Protected
Its impressive safety standards make it the highest rated car in all crash tests Global NCAP has conducted under its Safer Cars For India programme.
During the adult safety test, passengers’ head, neck, chest and knees were protected.
The body shell and footwell were rated stable and capable of withstanding further loading.
Coming to child safety, the head and chest were protected thanks to dual airbags, ABS (anti lock brakes), and ISOFIX child seat anchors.
Launch And Pre-Booking
The highly anticipated launch is set to take place on October 18 and bookings started from October 4.
Those interested can place a preorder online or via dealerships by paying a token amount of Rs 21,000.
Its quintessential SUV features include tall seating, high ground clearance, 370 mm water wading capability and traction feature to aid recovery in off road situations.
Powertrain, Competition, Pricing
It runs on the New Gen 1.2L Revotron Engine, along with the latest Dyna-Pro technology, which boasts of 86 PS power & 113 Nm of torque, along with a 5-speed transmission.
Its rivals include the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, Maruti Suzuki Swift, Maruti Ignis, Nissan Magnite, and Renault Kiger.
Pricing is expected to be in the range of Rs 5.5 lakh to Rs 8.3 lakh.
