The pandemic hit employment badly. Various firms in India had to let people go. But there is one sector, which is treading the path of creating jobs without being affected by the storms created by the pandemic. Yes, you guessed it right, it is the sector called IT.
Growth in hiring activity
And as per the recent reports by Naukri, in hiring activity the sector witnessed a whopping growth of 52% in June 2021, as compared to hiring activity in June 2019 (that time when pandemic hadn’t yet struck the world.) At the same time, the hiring activity has increased by 163% in June 2021 if considered based on December 2021.
The statistics simply show that the sector has been quick to rebound from the pandemic, and is well past the position of recovery, and is actually fuelling the growth of the economic engine.
IT – A major source of employment for the country.
Last month only, IT Sector industry body NASSCOM stated that the sector remained a net hirer of skilled talent. According to it, the country’s top 5 IT companies are planning to loop in additional 96,000 employees during 2021. NASSCOM in its notification reassured about the creation of new jobs by saying, “With the evolution of technology and increasing automation, the nature of traditional IT jobs and roles will evolve overall leading to the creation of newer jobs. The industry continues to be a net hirer of skilled talent, adding 1,38,000 people in FY2021”
NASSCOM also informed that the industry is upgrading the skillset of over 250000 current employees in their digital skills. Also at the same time, more than 40000 freshly trained people have been hired. With continuous hiring and upskilling, the sector will meet its vision of revenue of USD 300-350 billion by 2025.
