Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro Launch, Price: First Look Out, Checkout Specs
Popular tipster Jon Prosser leaked the Pixel 6 series first look on YouTube revealing the complete design of the upcoming Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro / Pixel 6 XL. Google Pixel 6 release date is not out yet, but the internet giant is going to follow the same launch period for Pixel 6. The upcoming Google Pixel 6 launch will happen in October 2021. Pixel 6 price will be in line with the predecessor, expected to start at $699 (around Rs 51,500). Pixel 6 will run on Google’s Whitechapel custom chipset, an XDA report reaffirms.Â
Pixel 6 has already been leaked a few times to come with an in-house Google chip.
The upcoming Google flagship will be running on the in-house Google-made chipset codenamed, Whitechapel. The latest report by XDA Developers again confirms the same with a screenshot of ‘Whitechapel’ text mentioned in a code change submitted to AOSP in the URL.
At the same time Pixel 5a launch is expected by June, and it will feature the Snapdragon 765G SoC.
Coming back to the Pixel 6 URL leak, Whitechapel refers to Google’s own chipset and ‘GS101’ may mean Google Silicon. The Google Whitechapel chip is being manufactured in association with Samsung’s system large-scale integration (SLSI) division. Exynos chips use the same SLSI technology, ao expect similarities.
It’s already been confirmed in earlier leaks that Google will start making its own chips from Pixel 6 series instead of using Qualcomm SoCs. The internet giant is said to be working on custom smartphone chips for Pixel 6, 9to5Google reported. Internally known as Whitechapel, the Google chips will debut this year only with Google devices, now again has been confirmed in another report by the much-reliable XDA Developers.
Whitechapel is in development in partnership with Samsung Semiconductor’s system-large scale integration (SLSI) division. So expect similarities between Samsung’s Exynos and the upcoming Google SoC.
The first Google chip will probably pack an octa-core ARM CPU with two Cortex-A78, two Cortex-A76 and four Cortex-A55 cores alongside ARM Mali GPU based on Samsung’s 5nm manufacturing process.
Google Whitechapel is going to be an upper mid-range chip compared with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 700 series SoCs. Custom silicon will benefit Google over driver updates. It’s not the first time the company is trying to come up with it’s own chip. Google earlier collaborated with Intel in 2017 to develop Pixel Visual Core for the Pixel 2.
In terms of optics, Google 6 may support 4K video recording on the front camera this time. It will retain the telephoto lens or may have an ultra-wide lens. Pixel 6 is said to come with the same ‘bio-resin plastic’ design as Pixel 5 with wireless charging support. The upcoming Google smartphone is rumoured to have ultra-wideband technology (UWB) which enable short-range communications with nearby devices for calls, texts and location tracking.
