Asus Zenfone 8 Launch Cancelled In India At The Last Moment: Find Out Why? What Next?
Amid the rising Covid-19 infection cases in India, the Taiwanese electronics company, Asus has announced to postpone its launch event of Zenfone 8 series, along with several gaming laptops, scheduled globally for May 12.
Asus has a running timer set at the launch event place on its website, which remains operable despite the event being postponed in India, implying that global launch timeline will remain unchanged.
Asus Launch Event Postpones
Asus had plans to reveal several launches in India today, i.e., May 12, 2021, along with all its global markets.
The event can be tracked on the company’s website here. It is scheduled for 5:00 PM GMT on May 12.
Due to increasing cases of Covid-19 infections in India, the company has decided to postpone the event in India until the current situation improves.
“While we have been very excited to launch our new smartphones at same time as global, Asus India’s top priority in these challenging times is the safety of our customers, partners, employees and all other stakeholders in the fight against the virus. Asus India has consciously decided to defer the launch till the current scenario improves.”, states Dinesh Sharma, Business Head, Commercial PC and Smartphone, System Business Group, Asus India.
What Will Asus Launch in the Event?
Asus will launch its upcoming Zenfone 8 series and several gaming laptops at the event today.
Asus Zenfone 8 is a flagship, powered by the Snapdragon 888 SoC. It will feature a 5.9-inch Full HD+ display offering 120Hz refresh rate without any notch or bezels, with a revolving 64-megapixel camera setup and 4,000 mAh battery.
It will also introduce the ZenfoNe 8 Flip, which is basically a follow-up of the Zenfone 7, except with a flip-up triple camera, 6.67” display and 5,000 mAh battery, in addition to the 888 SoC.
Besides flagship phones, Asus will also be introducing at least four new gaming laptops: the ROG Flow X13, Zephyrus 14, Zephyrus 15 and Zephyrus Duo 15 SE, informs Gsmarena.
While these laptops have already been launched earlier this year, they were to be introduced in the Indian market in today’s event, with supposed pricing and availability information.
“India is going through a very challenging time and our heart goes out to all in time of this crisis. We know the media has been awaiting the new ROG Flow X13 and Zephyrus line-up, however, keeping in view the current situation, Asus India has decided to cancel all upcoming PC and ROG launches”, stated Arnold Su, Business Head, Consumer & Gaming PC, System Business Group, Asus India.
