Samsung Sold 35,000 Smartphones Every Hour In Last 90 Days; Beats Apple, Xiaomi In Volume
Samsung Electronics Co Ltd. has emerged as the best and biggest smartphone producer Defeating Apple and Xiaomi both in volume.
Samsung has made up for a fifth of the overall global sales in the first quarter. This has been confirmed by a report published by a market research firm Canalys.
Samsung Defeats Xiaomi, Apple To Become #1 Smartphone Producer
Samsung has shipped 76.5 million smartphones in the first quarter. The South Korean company’s market share stands at 22%. Samsung also reported a hike of 66% in quarterly profit, the credit for which goes to the sales of the company’s flagship Galaxy S21 smartphone series.
As per the report, China’s Xiaomi Corp has recorded its best quarterly performance ever. The company has shipped 62% to 49 million phones and market share to 14%. The company stands third after Samsung and Apple.
Canalys Research Manager Ben Stanton stated, “In addition to great product value, Xiaomi is now also making strides to recruit local talent, become more channel-friendly and lead in high-end innovation, as seen with the Mi 11 Ultra and its recent foldable, the Mi Mix Fold.”
Coming to Apple, about 52.4 million iPhones were shipped by the company in this quarter, which went from January to March. The company fell to the second spot, with a 15% market share. The sales of iphones have increased primarily due to people upgrading to the new iPhone which the company has recently launched, the iPhone 12.
Overall Sales Increase Globally By 27%
Overall, the sales have increased globally 27% to 347 million units sold in the first quarter. This is probably as the Chinese economy has now opened up after the pandemic.
The lockdown that was imposed due to the Coronavirus resulted in Increased sales because people started shopping for smartphones and gadgets as they were locked inside their houses.
OPPO stands in fourth place with a market share of 11 percent and in fifth place is Vivo, with a 10 percent market share. The companies each shipped 37.6 million and 36 million units respectively.
This quarter also saw the exit of LG from the smartphone market. Other smartphone makers made up for a cumulative market share of 28 percent with 95.9 million shipments.
