Pakistan, China Beats India In Happiness; India Ranked Among 11 Most Unhappy Nations
The UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network has published the World Happiness Report 2021, and Finland has been named the world’s happiest country once again. According to the Happiness Survey, India is the fourth-least happy country on the planet! India was ranked 140th in the world in 2019. In the UN World Happiness Survey 2021, India was ranked 139th out of 149 nations. Jordan, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe are among the countries that are ranked lower than India.
What is the World Happiness Report?
The World Happiness Report is a pioneering study of global happiness that rates 149 countries according to how happy their people think they are. The results of Covid-19 and how people around the world have fared are the subject of the World Happiness Report 2021. The annual report assigns a ranking to countries based on their gross domestic product per person, healthy life expectancy, and residents’ opinions.
Respondents are asked to rate how much social support they have if anything goes wrong, their right to make their own life decisions, GDP level, freedom, income and how compassionate they are on a scale of 1 to 10.
“Our aim was two-fold, first to focus on the effects of COVID-19 on the structure and quality of people’s lives, and second to describe and evaluate how governments all over the world have dealt with the pandemic. In particular, we try to explain why some countries have done so much better than others,” it said in a statement.
“There have been both in-person and telephone samples for India, with the in-person responses being lower than telephone responses, while significantly higher than in-person responses in 2019. Hence the reversal in 2020 of the longer-term slide in Indian life evaluations was not attributable to mode effects,” it added.
What Makes Up Our Happiness?
The most popular measure of happiness is focused on responses to surveys in which people rate their life circumstances on a scale of 0 to 10. Individual responses are combined to arrive at a national ranking. Today the world wants to know how the Nordic country “Finland” has ranked highly when it comes to happiness and mutual trust.
“One possible explanation is that people see COVID-19 as a common, outside threat affecting everybody and that this has generated a greater sense of solidarity and fellow-feeling,” said Canadian economist John Helliwell in a statement.
Happiness has proved to be a challenging job. The Richer might wonder how and won’t bother much about these little problems but these small variables turn out to have significant explanatory power. Sleep anxiety is on the rise, confidence deficits are on the rise, and daily habits are being disrupted. Also in the last year, we saw things that were truly devastating and horrifying. Covid 19 resulted in deaths all over the world.
Lara Aknin, a Canadian social psychologist who currently teaches at the Simon Fraser University said “This has been a very challenging year, but the early data also show some notable signs of resilience in feelings of social connections and life evaluation,”
