Maruti Triggers SUV War; Will Launch These 5 SUVs To Challenge Tata Nexon, Hyundai Creta! (Full Details Here)
Space…Safety…Cargo Capacity…Off-Roading Capabilities are some of the reasons why people love SUVs. The love and preference for sports utility vehicles is increasing and it is evident from the sales of the same which is growing at a fast clip in India and companies are leaving no stone unturned to grab a larger share of the pie.
Not only to help the company improve its market share but also to give it an edge and lead over other automakers Maruti Suzuki is currently working on a range of new SUVs.
Maruti Suzuki India Limited, formerly known as Maruti Udyog Limited, is an Indian automobile manufacturer headquartered in New Delhi. It is a subsidiary of the Japanese automotive manufacturer Suzuki Motor Corporation. As of July 2018, it had a market share of 53% in the Indian passenger car market.
As long as we can remember, it has been a bestselling automaker which as of now dominates a host of mass-market segments.
The company which is majorly a hatchback-oriented brand, has decided to shift focus towards high-riding vehicles due to the rise in popularity of SUV segments.
Maruti Suzuki is currently working on at least 5 new SUVs for the Indian market and following is a list of the upcoming 5 Maruti Suzuki SUVs –
Contents
1. Tata Nexon Rival From Maruti
A new crossover, codenamed YTB, is being developed by Maruti Suzuki. Sister of “Baleno” is what YTB is referred to as. It could also be based on the same. Though Maruti Suzuki already has Vitara Brezza in its SUV lineup, YTB is believed to increase the automaker’s market share, especially in SUV space.
2. New-gen Vitara Brezza
Vitara Brezza’s dominance has been eroded by modern rivals in the SUV space. A mid-life facelift for the Vitara Brezza was introduced by Maruti Suzuki last year, but it seems as if a new generation SUV model is being readied by the automaker. Kia Sonet and Hyundai Venue are the key competitors for the same among others.
3. 5-Door Jimny
At the Auto Expo 2020, Jimny Sierra hinted that the car is considering entering into the Indian market. However the three door Jimny Sierra will be replaced by a five door version of the same and then produced and sold.
The Indian version of Jimny shall be powered with 1.5-litre petrol engine which will produce a torque of 138 Nm. In addition to the shift-on-fly low-range transfer case it comes with a partial 4×4 configuration.
4. S-cross Successor
Internally codenamed as D22, and likely to be manufactured at Toyota’s manufacturing unit near Bangalore, this model comes as a part of speculations that Maruti Suzuki is planning to launch a new crossover that will be positioned above the Vitara Brezza in the carmaker’s Indian line-up.
However, sourcing of components is expected to be done through Maruti Suzuki. Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks, Renault Duster, MG Hector are going to be the key competitors for the same. This product could be S-Cross’s successor.
5. Toyota, Creta Rival SUV BY Maruti
In the regulatory filing it was revealed by Maruti Suzuki that a new SUV which will be produced in Karnataka at Toyota’s Bidadi manufacturing facility will be sold under both the brands. For Maruti Suzuki it will be placed above Vitara Brezza in the line-up, whereas for Toyota it will be placed above Urban Cruiser. There is a Toyota’s design for emerging markets, namely DNGA (Daihatsu New Global Architecture) and this car will be based on the same.
It will be powered by a 1.5-litre petrol motor generating a torque of 138 Nm, which is the one that we can see in Vitara Brezza.
