BSNL Beats Jio In FTTH Broadband Rollout; Launches Bharat Fiber At Rs 1.1/GB, Across 112 Cities
BSNL's Bharat Fiber can trigger new price war
State-run telecom carrier BSNL has surprised even the die-hard Jio fan.
In a major developement, BSNL has launched their FTTH or Fiber To The Home Broadband services across 112 Indian cities.
This way, they have beaten Reliance Jio as their Jio Gigafiber is yet to launch.
As per initial reports, the FTTH Broadband plans from BSNL will offer per GB at an unbelievable price of Rs 1.1 per GB.
BSNL’s FTTH Rolled Out: Bharat Fiber
Named as Bharat Fiber, which means India’s Fiber, BSNL’s new FTTH Broadband service promises speed from 50 Mbps to 100 Mbps, and the per GB cost starts from Rs 1.1/GB.
At this price, BSNL’s Bharat Fiber is the cheapest broadband plan in India.
Vivek Banzal, Director of CFA, BSNL board said, “Our Fiber to Home technology has been upgraded and we are happy to announce the launch of Bharat Fiber which will be an affordable yet able to meet the huge data demand of our customers.”
This is for the first time that BSNL has lauched their own FTTH service in India.
Besides high speed Internet service, Bharat Fiber will provide:
- IP leased line
- Closed User Group (CUG)
- MPLS-VPN
- Video conferencing
BSNL has decided to include some advanced services for assisting their customers. For example, BSNL will regularly share security and usage updates so that the customers are aware of the usage, and plan their activities accordingly.
BSNL FTTH: Plans
As per the BSNL’s website, the plans have been categorized as per the speed: Starting from 50 Mbps for 500 GB, the plans expand to 100 Mbps for 3500 GB as well.
Here is a brief overview of the plans:
Rs 777 plan | 500 GB Data | 50 Mbps (After 500 GB, speed will be 2 Mbps)
Rs 1277 plan | 750 GB | 100 Mbps (after 750 Gb, speed will be 2 Mbps)
Rs 3999 plan | 750 GB | 60 Mbps (after 750 GB, speed will be 4 Mbps)
Rs 5999 plan | 1250 GB | 70 Mbps (after 1250 GB, speed will be 6 Mpbs)
Rs 9999 plan | 2200 GB | 100 Mbps (after 2200 GB, speed will be 8 Mbps)
Rs 16,999 plan | 3500 GB | 100 Mbps (after 3500 GB, speed will be 10 Mbps)
As per some reports, there is a starting plan of Rs 38.5, wherein the user will be able to get 35 GB of data. Under this plan, the cost per GB comes out to be Rs 1.1.

There are total of 112 cities, where BSNL’s latest FTTH plan is being offered.
