IIT Hyderabad Launch India’s 1st BTech In Artificial Intelligence; Amazon Will Hire 1400 Indian Engineers

Artificial Intelligence, the study of machines, and the art of inducing wisdom in them is now bigger than ever. In the past, we have reported how Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning are gobbling out jobs in India and all over the world.
However, now, a leading institution in India has decided to launch India’s 1st BTech and Engineering program in Artificial Intelligence.
How will this impact the job scenario?
Meanwhile, Amazon India has turned bullish with regards to jobs creation in India, despite anti-digital policies of Indian Govt.

India’s 1st BTech In Artificial Intelligence
IIT-Hyderabad has launched a BTech program in Artificial Intelligence, thereby becoming India’s first institution to do so.
The first batch will in-take 20 students, and the selection shall be done by JEE scores, which is the norm in IITs pan-India.
The first batch will be for 2019-20 session.
Globally, IIT-Hyderabad has become only the third institution to launch an engineering course in Artificial Intelligence – Only Carnegie Mellon University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) offers such course.
Prof U.B. Desai, Director, IIT Hyderabad said, “The basic aim is to create a complete ecosystem for Artificial Intelligence Academics and Research at IIT Hyderabad. This involves B.Tech., M.Tech. and different Minor Programs in AI. Moreover, the R&D will be strongly entwined with academics,”
IIT Hyderabad has already established the Department of Artificial Intelligence, and MTech program for the same is already running.
The importance of Artificial Intelligence is increasing day by day, and recently a report said that Artificial Intelligence will prove to be a major factor for enhancing cybersecurity.
It would be interesting to observe how engineering students view Artificial Intelligence as a subject, for taking forward their careers.
Amazon Will Hire 1400 Engineers, Managers In India
Indian Govt. has recently unveiled India’s first ecommerce policy, and the digital industry is not happy at all.
The new policies will destroy the trend of deep discounts and flash sales, and ecommerce enthusiasts are worried.
Despite this gloom, Amazon India has decided to ramp up recruitment activities in India.
As per recent reports, Amazon India is all set to hire 1400 highly skilled engineers and managers in India, in the next 5-6 months. This clearly proves that Amazon is optimistic about ecommerce sector in India.
After Seattle, India has the largest number of job opening by Amazon as of now.
Bengaluru, the Silicon Capital of India and Hyderabad has been listed with the most number of jobs. Out of 1400 total jobs, these two cities alone account for 1000 openings.
While Bengaluru has 661 job openings, Hyderabad has 339 job listings. Rest of the jobs are located in Chennai, Mumbai and Gurgaon.
Sectors which will employ most of the employees in Amazon are: retail, marketplace and advertising businesses followed by Amazon Web Services.
There has been no indication from Flipkart or Paytm regarding job generation. We will keep you updated, as more details come in.
