Airtel Is Offering Free 4G Data For A Year; But You Need To Ditch Your Mobile Operator For That!
This is indeed one of the smartest, and innovative moves by India’s largest telecom operator, Airtel: Free 4G Internet for a year. But wait; there is a catch here: This offer is only available for those, who decide to ditch their telecom operator, and choose Airtel.
In case you are an existing Airtel user, then the only way you can avail this offer is by upgrading to a new 4G handset. It is not clear as to how those Airtel customers who have 4G handset can avail this scheme.
It is valid for both prepaid and postpaid customers.
How Will You Get Free Airtel 4G Data?
In a smart way, Airtel has created this offer for those decides to switch over to Airtel, and have a 4G enabled handset.
Hence, in order to avail this scheme:
- You need to be any network other than Airtel
- Have a 4G handset
- If you are an Airtel user, then you need to upgrade to a 4G handset for availing this offer
This scheme will run between January 4th and February 28th, 2017. On a broader level, approximate Rs 9000 can be saved by each user, who opts into this scheme by Airtel, as 3GB of data would be provided every month, for a year.
Ajai Puri, Director of Market Operations, Bharti Airtel, said, “We are inviting customers to experience 4G through the year on India’s fastest network. We are seeing increasing penetration of 4G handsets across the country and believe that this attractive offer will provide an opportunity to more and more customers to enjoy high speed broadband on their devices with Airtel.”
What Is In Store For Prepaid & Postpaid Users?
Prepaid Users: The offer is available on selected packs, the detail of which are still awaited. ET reports that those prepaid customers who have opted for Rs 345 pack for 1 GB and have switched over to Airtel from any other provider, will now get a additional 3GB per month, for a year. This pack will also have free unlimited voice calling, pan-India.
Meanwhile, Indian Express reports that the first 3GB of 4G data can be availed only via MyAirtel app, but the subsequent data benefits would be open. The report also mentions that the special free data benefits would only be available on subsequent recharges, every month (total 13 recharges, till December 31, 2017).
Post Paid Users: As per available information, this special free 4G data for a year would be applicable for all users of MyPlan Infinity Plans, as an additional 3GB of data would be automatically added to their account, every month.
However, some reports claim that the postpaid users can only access the additional data benefits via MyAirtel app, Wynk Music and Wynk Videos. Thus, for examples, Rs 549 Infinity Plan will now have 6 GB of data (3 GB normal, under plan + 3 GB under special offer). MyPlan Infinity Plans has free unlimited voice calling and free SMS already included.
