India’s second largest telecom company i.e. Vodafone India announced their new bill payment Smartphone wallet app – M-Pesa. The application has been launched across all the major Smartphone platforms which includes Android, iOS, Blackberry OS and Windows Phone as well. The app is primarily targeted at the online bill payment and mobile recharge functionality.
Vodafone M-Pesa service has been around for some time now, which allowed users to easily send money to any person. The M-Pesa has been giving tough competition to Airtel Money which is offers similar functionality.
Vodafone’s new m-Pesa app is free to download from any app store. A user can easily make the payment of bills; recharge the prepaid numbers among other things. M-Pesa has a wallet functionality that enables users to load money to wallet through either Net Banking or Debit card. The money can then be used to pay bills and do mobile recharges on the go.
The app could also be very beneficial for the students because they can load one time monthly amount on the m-Pesa app for the convenience of recharges.
To attract customers to M-Pesa wallet, Vodafone has announced 5% cash back on payments made through the wallet. However, the maximum cashback available will be Rs. 50 per month.

At the launch Vodafone also mentioned that the app is highly secured and special attention has been paid to secure the sensitive user information. Company believes that the app will definitely bring a change in the way people make bill payments and recharges.
The company statement said, “With a pan-India distribution of over 90,000 agents and more than 3 million customers, Vodafone M-Pesa is the largest banking correspondent in the country and is playing a vital role in enabling financial inclusion and m-commerce”. Vodafone is also planning to extent the app’s usage in more areas in the near future.
