New Amazon Kindle Voyage With Free 3G Launched In India
Amazon has launched their latest and the best Kindle in India – The Kindle Voyage, which promises better hardware and better screen on the uber popular e-reader. However, it is priced quite steeply at Rs. 16,499 which might appeal to only the most voracious of readers in India.
Highlight of the new Kindle Voyage (the 3G version) is that it provides with Free 3G connectivity, so can download and sync your books anywhere and everywhere even if you do not have a Wi-Fi. The best part is you do not have to subscribe to any telecom service to get the 3G – it is in-built. Neither do you need to have a 3G Sim card, nor do you have to worry about connectivity. This is probably the biggest advantage of Kindle Voyage over previous generation Kindles.
So How is Kindle Voyage different?
The new Kindle voyage 6-inch display comes with Carta e-paper technology and adaptive front light that adjusts automatically. It has a pixel density of 300 ppi with optimized font technology and 16-level gray scale. The storage capacity remains at 4GB which is easily enough to store thousands of books on it.
Even the Battery capacity has been increased – the new voyage battery will last upto 6 weeks or one and half month on single recharge and the battery fully charges in 3 hours through USB cable.
Kindle Voyage supports nearly all document formats including Kindle Format 8 (AZW3), Kindle (AZW), TXT, PDF, unprotected MOBI and PRC natively. It also supports HTML, DOC, DOCX, JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP formats through conversion.

Kindle Voyage 3G
While the Kindle Voyage comes in 2 versions – The WiFi version and the WiFi+3G version. The latter only differs because it offers free 3G connectivity to the users. However, the 3G version is priced at Rs. 20,499, around Rs. 4000 higher than WiFi version.
Like we said previously, the user does not need to have 3G subscription, the Voyage 3G version has 3G connectivity inbuilt. The 3G connectivity is available only in some parts of India. Here is the map which shows where Kindle Voyage 3G will have connectivity.
Most of the Southern, Central and Northern India is available through either 3G or 2G connectivity, which users can use to download the books. In the eastern parts only West Bengal has the connectivity. So, if you live in parts where there is no 3G or 2G connectivity, it is better to buy the base WiFi version.
