SXC as an Autonomous college, please note, is not a DEEMED TO BE UNIVERSITY and therefore not empowered to offer degrees. It is permitted to formulate its own syllabus, and establish its own evaluation system, i.e. conduct exams and publish the results.
Though the college has been empowered to conduct examinations for its students, the Degree Certificates will be issued by the University, with the signature of the Vice Chancellor of Calcutta University, bearing the name of the College.

The BSc. Programme replaced the BSc. General Course in the year 2005. The first batch of the new course passed out in 2008. The aims behind replacing the old course were

- To provide students a broad-based exposure to the critical domains of the sciences i.e. Physics, Chemistry, Biology, in both single science domain and multiple science domain modes;
- To provide students adequate background of Mathematical Sciences, and tools and techniques such as Computer Applications, Modern Instrumentation and Electronics, and Analytical Techniques;
- To enable students to enhance their technical writing and communication skills.
- To provide students adequate exposure to global and local concerns that explore the many aspects of societal relevance in Environmental Science.
- To give students an opportunity to explore the multidisciplinarity in science, particularly in those emerging areas that lie at the intersection(s) of physical, chemical, life and earth Sciences including such cutting-edge areas like astrobiology, theoretical biology, geophysics, molecular paleontology, biogeochemistry, etc.
Only the disciplines of BSc. Programme with Physical Sciences (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) and BSc. Programme with Applied Physical Sciences (Physics, Computer Science and Mathematics) are taught in St. Stephen’s College.
Application forms for admission to the First Year Senior College will be available on our website at www.xaviers.edu in the section Noticeboard, from the last week of May. They may be sent by registered post or courier, with all the indicated documents, to reach in time for the admission process.
These Application forms will also be made available at the College Office, from the day the H.S.C. results of the Maharashtra State Board (XII standard) are announced. They should be submitted to the College Office with documentation, within the time frame that will be announced by the University of Mumbai and displayed on our notice boards, including the online notice board.
The actual admissions will begin only after the declaration of results of the XII in Mumbai. This date will be announced sometime in May but is likely to be anytime after the 25th of May. Admissions will be done on the basis of the total marks scored in all subjects taken in the XII standard exam. There is no entrance test for any of these courses.
Students passing the H.S.C. or any other examinations conducted by Boards/Universities outside Maharashtra State, should first obtain and submit a provisional eligibility certificate from the Registrar, University of Mumbai, Eligibility Section, Vidyanagari, Santacruz (E), Mumbai – 400 098, before they seek admission to the Senior College.
To apply for this one has to display the original Mark sheet at the office, along with 2 xerox copies. For confirmation of the eligibility, students should submit to the College Office, before the close of the first term, the Statement of Marks, the Passing Certificate and the Migration Certificate.
