WhatsApp, the popular messaging app owned by Meta Platforms Inc, has fulfilled one of its users’ most anticipated requests by introducing the ability to edit messages. In a blog post, WhatsApp announced the exciting new feature, giving users more control over their chats.

Whatsapp Messages Can Now Be Edited, Even After Sending! But Only For 15 Minutes (Check Full Details)

Whatsapp Messages Can Now Be Edited

The editing feature allows users to change their sent messages, whether correcting a simple typo or adding more context.

To access the edit option, users can long-press on a sent message and select “Edit” from the menu. They have a window of up to fifteen minutes after sending a message to make the desired modifications.

When a message has been edited, it will display the label “edited” alongside it, indicating a change has been made. However, the edit history will not be visible to the recipient or anyone else. As with all personal messages, media, and calls on WhatsApp, end-to-end encryption ensures the security and privacy of the messages and edits.

As per the official blog by Whatsapp, “Edited messages will display ‘edited’ alongside them, so those you’re messaging are aware of the correction without showing edit history. As with all personal messages, media and calls, your messages and the edits you make are protected by end-to-end encryption.”

Senders Can Edit Messages Within 15 Minutes

The rollout of this feature has already begun, with WhatsApp making it available to users worldwide in the coming weeks. Once fully implemented, senders will have a 15-minute timeframe to edit their messages after they have been sent.

WhatsApp’s message editing feature aligns it with competing apps like Telegram and Signal, which have already offered this functionality. Additionally, Twitter introduced the ability to edit tweets for select users last year.

With this new feature, WhatsApp users now have more flexibility and control over their conversations. They can rectify errors or add additional information even after sending a message, enhancing the overall user experience.

As WhatsApp continues to innovate and respond to user feedback, the introduction of message editing demonstrates its commitment to providing a seamless and convenient messaging platform. Whether it’s a minor correction or the need for more clarity, users can now edit their messages on WhatsApp, ensuring their communications are accurate and effective.
