After taking the world by storm, OpenAI temporarily shut down its popular ChatGPT service on Monday morning.
The move came in existence after receiving reports of a bug that allowed some users to see the titles of other users’ chat histories.
How Did This Happen?
As we know that the technology also comes with many risks as its learning system and similar competitor models are integrated into commercial applications.
Recently, a recent bug appeared in ChatGPT which has given other users of OpenAI’s ChatGPT access to the titles of some users’ previous chats with the AI chatbot, as per the media report.
After receiving reports of this bug, the OpenAI temporarily shut down its ChatGPT service on Monday morning.
According to an OpenAI spokesperson, the titles were visible in the user-history sidebar that typically appears on the left side of the ChatGPT webpage.
He further confirmed that the chatbot was temporarily disabled after the company heard these reports.
It is noteworthy here that the substance of the other users’ conversations was not visible.
Why Did This Happen?
According to OpenAI, the error was attributed to undisclosed open-source software.
Moreover, the spokesperson from OpenAI said that the titles were visible in the user-history sidebar that typically appears on the left side of the ChatGPT webpage.
Presently, the company is investigating the precise cause.
After this unavailability, ChatGPT came back online Monday night.
Although, the users’ chat histories remained missing as of late Monday night Pacific time.
For the user’s convenience, “History is temporarily unavailable,” read a message in the place where a user’s ChatGPT queries and responses typically reside.
Further adding that “We’re working to restore this feature as soon as possible.”
Confirming the same, the spokesperson said, “ChatGPT is now back online, and we are working to bring chat history back online as well,” in the statement Monday night.
