Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast has taken a major step towards entering India’s electric two-wheeler market by signing letters of intent (LOIs) with more than 50 dealership partners.

The company plans to establish over 50 electric two-wheeler showrooms across 34 cities in 15 states and Union Territories. The move marks an expansion beyond its electric car business as it prepares to compete in one of the world’s largest two-wheeler markets.

VinFast has not announced an official launch date for its electric scooters in India.

Maharashtra, Karnataka And Other States In Focus

The planned dealership network will cover several important two-wheeler markets, including Maharashtra, Delhi-NCR, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

In southern India, VinFast plans to establish a presence in Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. West Bengal and Odisha are among the eastern markets included in its expansion plans.

The company says it is also working on charging infrastructure and after-sales service to support customers across the planned locations.

Building a broad retail and service network ahead of the launch could help VinFast establish customer confidence in a market where buyers increasingly consider battery reliability, maintenance costs and service availability before purchasing an electric scooter.

Viper And Rasad Scooters Could Lead The Launch

VinFast’s initial Indian electric scooter line-up is expected to include the Viper and Rasad models, whose designs have been patented in India.

The company has not yet confirmed the final model names, specifications, prices or launch schedule for the Indian market.

VinFast has previously indicated that it is developing electric scooters specifically for Indian consumers. The models are expected to reflect local commuting requirements and price sensitivity rather than simply being imported unchanged from other markets.

The company has also explored local sourcing of components, including batteries, to improve cost competitiveness.

India’s Electric Two-Wheeler Market Offers Huge Potential

India registered approximately 2.14 crore two-wheelers in FY2025-26, but electric vehicles accounted for only around 6.54% of the total.

That relatively low penetration leaves considerable room for electric scooters to expand as consumers look for alternatives to petrol-powered vehicles.

However, VinFast will face established competitors such as TVS Motor, Bajaj Auto, Hero MotoCorp, Ather Energy and several emerging electric mobility brands.

Competitive pricing, battery performance, charging access and a reliable dealership network will be critical to winning customers.

VinFast Is Expanding Its India Presence

VinFast entered India with electric cars in 2025 and has been developing its manufacturing and assembly operations in Tamil Nadu.

The company has also outlined ambitions to expand its Indian manufacturing capabilities and introduce products tailored to local requirements.

Its move into electric two-wheelers could significantly broaden its potential customer base, given the popularity of scooters for daily commuting across Indian cities.

Launch Date And Prices Still Awaited

Although the dealership agreements represent an important milestone, they do not mean that sales have begun.

VinFast has yet to announce confirmed launch dates, prices, battery specifications or the final Indian product range. Its ability to execute the rollout and establish competitive pricing will determine how effectively it can challenge domestic manufacturers.

Summary

VinFast has signed letters of intent with more than 50 electric two-wheeler dealers to establish showrooms across 34 Indian cities in 15 states and Union Territories. The Vietnamese EV maker is expected to introduce the Viper and Rasad electric scooters, although launch dates and prices remain unconfirmed. With electric vehicles accounting for around 6.54% of India’s two-wheeler registrations in FY2025-26, VinFast sees an opportunity to expand beyond electric cars.
