Nagpur is set to benefit from a major rail development with the introduction of the Vande Bharat Sleeper, a semi-high-speed train service connecting Nagpur to Pune and Mumbai. The proposal, submitted to the Railway Board by the Nagpur Division of Central Railway, is currently under review. Once operational, the Vande Bharat Sleeper will dramatically reduce travel times: from Nagpur to Mumbai (currently 12–16 hours) to just 10 hours, and from Nagpur to Pune (currently 3 hours) to significantly less time.

Train Service to Improve Connectivity and Reduce Congestion on Nagpur Routes
Currently, the Nagpur-Pune route is serviced by the Superfast Express and Garib Rath Express, which operate three times a week. Meanwhile, the Nagpur-Mumbai route offers limited services, including the Vidarbha and Sevagram Express, resulting in longer waiting times for passengers. The Vande Bharat service is set to fill these gaps by increasing the frequency of trains and reducing congestion, particularly during peak travel periods.
Vinayak Garg, the newly appointed Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) for Nagpur, emphasized the city’s importance in the national railway network, with over 125 trains operating daily. He highlighted that the Vande Bharat Sleeper service will enhance convenience, improve passenger experience, and alleviate pressure on existing routes.
Trains to Revolutionize Rail Travel Between Nagpur, Pune, and Mumbai
To meet the rising demand for faster and more comfortable travel options between Nagpur, Pune, and Mumbai, the introduction of high-speed sleeper trains is a key initiative. The Vande Bharat trains will provide modern amenities, enhanced safety features, and greater efficiency, offering a compelling alternative to road travel. Equipped with cutting-edge technology, the Vande Bharat Sleeper service will significantly upgrade Maharashtra’s railway infrastructure, ushering in a new era of rail travel in the region.
