The upcoming Vande Bharat Sleeper train is set to transform the long-distance train travel experience between Mumbai and Delhi. The new train will reduce travel time to 12 hours, compared to the current 15-20 hours on conventional express trains. Designed for luxury, efficiency, and speed, it aims to redefine the travel experience for passengers.
Enhanced Comfort and Capacity
The Vande Bharat Sleeper train will feature 16 coaches with a seating capacity of 823 passengers. The coaches will include 10 for third AC, 4 for second AC, 1 for first AC, and 2 Seating cum Luggage Rake (SLR) coaches, ensuring an enhanced travel experience. The train’s design emphasizes comfort, offering an unprecedented level of luxury in long-distance train travel.
This sleeper version differs from the existing Vande Bharat Express chair car trains, which have only 8 coaches accommodating 530 passengers. The new sleeper version, with its larger capacity, is ideal for long routes such as Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Patna, catering to the high demand for comfortable and efficient travel.
Expected Launch and Initial Route
According to reports, the train’s manufacturing is nearing completion in Bengaluru, and the first operations are expected before August 15. The sleeper train will initially operate between Delhi and Mumbai via Gujarat, with key stops at stations such as Kota, Ratlam, Vadodara, and Surat. It will provide a competitive alternative to the popular Rajdhani Express, which currently takes around 16 hours for the same journey.
Speed and Connectivity
In its initial phase, the Vande Bharat Sleeper train is expected to run at a speed of 130 km/h. Over time, this will increase to 160 km/h and eventually reach 220 km/h. This speed enhancement will significantly reduce travel times, making the sleeper train a fast and efficient mode of travel on key routes.
A New Era for Train Travel
The Vande Bharat Sleeper train aims to revolutionize the Mumbai-Delhi route, providing a faster and more luxurious option for passengers. With its enhanced capacity, speed, and comfort, this train will set a new benchmark in Indian long-distance rail travel.
