Vada Pav, the prime dish of Mumbai city, has now emerged on the list of the top 20 best sandwiches in the world!
A survey by Taste Atlas has revealed that Vada Pav ranks 19th in the list of the top best sandwiches.

Vada Pav Ranked 19th Among the World’s Top 20 Best Sandwiches
Vada Pav is among the most well-liked street foods in India, especially in Mumbai.
According to a global ranking of the top 20 sandwiches, vada pav comes in at number 19 as per Taste Atlas. Taste Atlas is a travel and culinary guide that offers reviews and a compilation of regional recipes.
As per TasteAtlas, “This iconic street food is said to have originated from a street vendor named Ashok Vaidya. He thought of a way to satiate hungry workers, and concluded the ideal dish should be portable, affordable, and easy to prepare.”
The deep-fried potato ball sandwiched between two pav or white buns to make the popular vada pav, is served with a spicy red chutney consisting of coconut, peanuts, tamarind, garlic, and chillies.
In Maharashtra, vada pav may be found anywhere from fancy restaurants to street stalls.
In the 1960s and 1970s, a street vendor by the name of Ashok Vaidya used to sell food close to the Dadar rail station. In order to feed hungry workers, Ashok Vaidya set out to create a food that was economical, portable, and simple to prepare.
Taste Atlas’s announcement on Twitter with the caption “Choose your favourite?” generated a lot of attention and comments as well.

Some other desserts on the list include New York Cheesecake from New York, Basque from Spain, Sfakianopita from Greece, Rakoczi turos from Hungary, Melopita from Greece, Kasekuchen from Germany, and Misa rezy from the Czech Republic.
