India Has One of the Highest iPhone Duo Prices

Apple’s first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo, has arrived with a starting price of ₹2,99,900 in India for the 256GB model. That makes India one of the most expensive markets for Apple’s new foldable, with the same device available at substantially lower prices in several other countries.

US Cheapest Nation To Buy Foldable iPhone; India Among Most Expensive Nations

The price difference is particularly striking when compared with the US, where the iPhone Duo starts at $1,999, equivalent to roughly ₹1.9 lakh at the exchange rate used for the comparison.

US Is the Cheapest Market

According to the 91mobiles comparison, the United States has the lowest listed starting price among the markets examined.

CountryStarting PriceApprox. INR
United States$1,999₹1.90 lakh
CanadaCAD 2,999₹2.06 lakh
Hong KongHKD 17,499₹2.12 lakh
UAEAED 8,499₹2.20 lakh
JapanJPY 364,800₹2.27 lakh
ChinaCNY 15,999₹2.27 lakh
SingaporeSGD 3,099₹2.33 lakh
GermanyEUR 2,299₹2.54 lakh
UKGBP 1,999₹2.57 lakh
India₹2,99,900₹2.99 lakh

The comparison shows that the Indian starting price is around ₹1.1 lakh higher than the converted US price. Canada, Hong Kong and the UAE are also considerably cheaper than India.

Why Is the US Price Not the Final Price?

There is an important catch for Indian buyers considering the US.

The advertised US price does not include state sales tax. The final amount therefore depends on where the phone is purchased. Even after accounting for sales tax, however, the US price remains significantly below India’s listed price in most cases.

The UAE can also be attractive because eligible tourists may claim a VAT refund when leaving the country, although the actual saving depends on the applicable refund and purchase conditions.

India’s iPhone Duo Prices Go Up to ₹4.5 Lakh

The price gap becomes even more significant at higher storage capacities.

In India, the 512GB model costs ₹3,24,900, while the 1TB version is priced at ₹3,74,900. The top-end 2TB variant costs a massive ₹4,49,900.

That makes the Duo considerably more expensive than competing foldable smartphones available in India.

For comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Fold 8 Ultra starts at around ₹1,99,999, while the Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold starts at approximately ₹1,86,999, according to the report.

Why Is the Indian Price So High?

Apple has not provided a detailed official breakdown explaining the Indian pricing difference.

Taxes, import-related costs, currency movements and Apple’s regional pricing strategy can all influence the final retail price. However, there is no official breakdown showing exactly how much each factor contributes.

India’s 18% GST and import-related costs are among the factors that can make imported technology products more expensive than their US-listed prices.

Should Indians Buy the iPhone Duo Abroad?

For someone already travelling to the US, UAE, Japan or another cheaper market, purchasing the phone abroad could potentially result in substantial savings.

However, buyers also need to consider taxes, warranty and service conditions, regional specifications and other restrictions before making a cross-border purchase.

For consumers who specifically want Apple’s first foldable and are deeply invested in its ecosystem, the premium may be acceptable. But for buyers simply looking for a foldable smartphone, considerably cheaper alternatives are already available in India.

Summary: The US is the cheapest market among those compared for Apple’s iPhone Duo, with a starting price equivalent to roughly ₹1.9 lakh, compared with ₹2,99,900 in India. Canada, Hong Kong, the UAE, Japan and China are also substantially cheaper. India’s 2TB model reaches ₹4,49,900, making the Duo one of the country’s most expensive smartphones.
