In a significant move to strengthen ties between India and the UAE, the United Arab Emirates has introduced a visa-on-arrival policy for Indian nationals holding valid US, UK, or European Union visas. This new policy aims to ease travel for Indian citizens, enhancing both tourism and business exchanges between the two countries.

UAE Rolls Out New Visa On Arrival Policy For Selected Indian Citizens

Visa-On-Arrival Eligibility Criteria

The new visa-on-arrival policy is available for Indian nationals who meet certain criteria, which include:

  • Holding a valid visa, residence permit, or green card from the United States.
  • Having a valid visa or residence permit from any European Union country or the United Kingdom.
  • Possessing a passport with at least six months’ validity.

Indian travellers meeting these conditions will be granted a 14-day visa upon arrival in the UAE. For those who wish to extend their stay, the visa can be extended for an additional 60 days upon payment of the applicable fees.

Strengthening Travel and Business Relations

This policy is seen as part of the UAE’s broader efforts to strengthen its relationship with India, where over 3.5 million Indian nationals currently reside. The initiative is expected to significantly enhance travel and business opportunities between the two countries, as it provides easier access for Indian nationals who frequently travel to the UAE for work, business, or leisure.

The Indian Embassy in the UAE lauded this move, emphasizing its potential to further boost the longstanding partnership between the two nations. The UAE is already a key destination for Indian tourists, investors, and expatriates, and this policy is expected to increase the flow of people between the two countries.

A Boost for Indian Travellers

For Indian citizens, especially those holding US, UK, or EU visas, this policy simplifies travel to the UAE by eliminating the need to apply for a visa in advance. It opens up new opportunities for both short-term visits and extended stays, thereby supporting the growing business, tourism, and cultural ties between the two nations.

With over 3.5 million Indians already living and working in the UAE, this policy is expected to benefit both frequent visitors and first-time travellers. As ties between India and the UAE continue to deepen, this visa-on-arrival initiative is a significant step forward in fostering stronger connectivity between the two nations.
