Toyota has debuted the Rumion MPV in India, based on the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga.
It follows the Innova Crysta, Innova Hycross and the Vellfire as the latest MPV in Toyota’s portfolio, now the widest.
The Rumion, however, will be manufactured and supplied by Maruti Suzuki.
Rebadged Maruti Suzuki Ertiga
It gets few styling changes from the Ertiga. However, it does get a new bumper with revised fog lamp surrounds, an Innova Crysta-like grille and new dual-tone alloy wheels.
It also shares the equipment list and 7-seat configuration with the Ertiga.
Design changes
The biggest change is the new and larger front grille.
The grille features a honeycomb pattern and is surrounded with chrome.
The front bumper is also redesigned and features another chrome element on the lower portion.
On the sides, the Rumion sports new seven-spoke diamond-cut alloy wheels, different from the alloys seen on the Ertiga.
Interior
Inside, the Rumion features a beige dashboard with faux wood inserts and beige upholstery.
It features an all-black dashboard with a floating touchscreen infotainment system in the centre, a twin-dial instrument cluster and a flat-bottom steering wheel.
Some of the features include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control and cruise control.
The Toyota i-Connect system offers more than 55 features, allowing users to stay connected and informed on the go.
Safety
It is equipped with dual front and front seat side airbags, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, engine immobilizer, ESP, hill hold, and front seat belts with pretensioners and force limiters.
The advanced safety features include auto collision notification, tow alert, find my car, and valet profile.
Powertrain, Fuel efficiency
The Toyota Rumion features Maruti’s 103hp, 137Nm, 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine.
It is also offered with a factory-fitted CNG kit that produces 88hp and 121.5Nm.
The petrol version has a fuel efficiency of 20.51kpl, while the CNG version returns 26.11km/kg.
Gearbox options include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter.
Availability, pricing
The Rumion is available in three trim levels and 6 variants: S MT/AT, G MT, and V MT/AT, S MT CNG.
Although pricing is yet to be revealed, it is expected to be marginally more expensive than the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga’s corresponding variants.
The Ertiga is currently priced from Rs 8.64 lakh to Rs 13.08 lakh.
