As the automotive tide turns toward thrift and sustainability, Maruti Suzuki is quietly redrawing the map of affordable mobility in India.

Maruti Suzuki to Expand Compact and Budget Car Lineup

Maruti Suzuki is gearing up for one of its most significant transformation phases in recent years, with a wide array of compact, budget-focused models in the pipeline. Spanning hatchbacks, compact SUVs, MPVs and electric vehicles, the company’s upcoming portfolio reflects a strategic shift toward efficiency, alternative fuels and mass-market electrification.

At the entry level, Maruti Suzuki is believed to be developing an all-new affordable car aimed squarely at first-time buyers. Designed to keep ownership costs low, the model is expected to offer multiple powertrain choices, including petrol, CNG, flex-fuel and possibly mild or strong hybrid options. The focus will remain on simplicity, reliability and everyday usability.

Electrification will also move into smaller segments. A compact electric car inspired by the eWX concept is widely anticipated as the brand’s most accessible EV yet. With a boxy design and space-efficient layout, this model is expected to balance practicality and affordability, potentially bringing electric mobility within reach of a broader customer base.

Micro SUV, MPV and Baleno Updates in Maruti’s Pipeline

In the SUV category, Maruti Suzuki is developing a new micro SUV positioned below the Brezza. Expected to compete with the Tata Punch and Hyundai Exter, this five-seater could feature rugged styling cues and a strong value proposition. Hybrid assistance is likely to enhance fuel efficiency while keeping emissions in check.

The company is also reassessing its MPV strategy. A compact MPV positioned below the Ertiga is under consideration, drawing inspiration from tall, space-optimised international people-movers. Interior flexibility, comfort and practicality are expected to be key highlights, with a strong hybrid petrol engine improving mileage.

Among existing models, the next-generation Baleno is planned for around 2027. It is expected to debut with fresh styling, a more premium cabin and a strong hybrid setup based on the new Z-series petrol engine, possibly used in a range-extender format. Updates to the Fronx may also include meaningful mechanical upgrades and the introduction of advanced driver assistance systems.

With electrification and efficiency woven into every segment, Maruti Suzuki’s road ahead seems set to make greener mobility a shared destination rather than a distant dream.

Summary

Maruti Suzuki is planning a major expansion of its compact and budget-friendly lineup, including new hatchbacks, micro SUVs, MPVs and electric vehicles. With multiple powertrain options, hybrid technology and affordable EVs, the company aims to make efficient and eco-friendly mobility accessible to a wider audience in the coming years.
