The Renault-Nissan alliance have announced their vision for India, which is a long-term vision involving huge investment in the country to back up production as well as research and development activities in India.
The long-term vision of the alliance carmaking majors also include line-up and introduction of electric vehicles, along with a transition made towards carbon-neutral manufacturing.
The Renault-Nissan alliance is a French-Japanese strategic alliance majorly between the automobile manufacturers Renault and Nissan.
The alliance has announced that it will debut six new car models in the Indian market, including four C-segment SUVs as well as two A-segment electric vehicles. The said EVs will also be the first set of electric vehicles that will be released by the two global automakers.
That being said, the two auto companies have announced to invest a total of Rs 5,300 crore or $600 million in India, while creating almost 2,000 new jobs in the country at the companies’ production base in Chennai, India, named ‘Renault Nissan Technology & Business Centre’.
The six new car models will be manufactured at the Chennai’s hub and will be sold to domestic as well as global customers.
The Renault Nissan Automotive India Private Ltd (RNAIPL) factory in Chennai will reportedly also be carbon-neutral, with a major increase in the generation of renewable energy.
Through the said investment, Renault and Nissan’s commitment to the Indian market is reinforced, stated sources.
Reports suggest that Renault has been seen testing the Arkana SUV in India, while the Japanese brand Nissan has been seen testing the Qashqai SUV in the country.
