Tata Motors and Italian commercial vehicle manufacturer Iveco Group have formally begun operating as a combined global commercial mobility enterprise, creating the world’s fourth-largest commercial vehicle manufacturer by sales volume in the above-six-tonne segment.

Announced on November 3, 2026, in Turin, Italy, the combination brings together the companies’ commercial vehicle portfolios, manufacturing capabilities, technology expertise and international networks. The combined business will have annual revenues of approximately €21 billion, equivalent to more than ₹2.28 lakh crore, and annual sales volumes of around 5.9 lakh vehicles.
The development follows Tata Motors’ acquisition of an 89.42% stake in Iveco Group for approximately €3.43 billion, or around ₹36,000 crore.
Combined Business to Operate Across 130 Countries
The new enterprise will have a presence in more than 130 countries across Europe, India, South America, Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
Its global operations will be supported by 27 manufacturing facilities, 25 research and development centres and approximately 9,300 sales and service locations. The combined workforce will exceed 73,000 employees across six continents.
The two companies bring complementary strengths to the partnership. Tata Motors has a strong presence in India and other emerging markets, with a commercial vehicle portfolio ranging from sub-one-tonne cargo vehicles to 55-tonne trucks. Its passenger transport offerings include vehicles with seating capacities from 10 to 51 passengers.
Iveco adds capabilities across light, medium and heavy commercial vehicles, along with city and intercity buses. Its powertrain business, FPT Industrial, also serves on-road and off-road transportation, marine applications and power generation.
Iveco to Retain Its Headquarters in Italy
Despite becoming part of Tata Motors, Iveco Group will retain its headquarters in Turin, Italy. Its brands, employees and industrial footprint will also maintain their distinct identities.
Tata Motors will support Iveco’s existing strategy and investment plans while both companies explore opportunities to share engineering capabilities, technologies, sourcing networks and distribution strengths.
Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran said the combination would help both organisations invest for the long term and develop safer, smarter, more connected and sustainable commercial transportation solutions.
The companies have also assured customers, dealers, suppliers and business partners that existing contracts, warranties, aftermarket commitments and financing arrangements will continue unchanged.
Focus on Technology and Cleaner Commercial Mobility
The combined enterprise will bring together expertise in conventional combustion engines, natural gas, battery-electric vehicles, hydrogen and other low- and zero-emission technologies.
This broader technology portfolio could help the companies respond to different transportation requirements across international markets while accelerating the development of cleaner commercial vehicles.
Tata Motors Managing Director and CEO Girish Wagh said the partnership would create opportunities to strengthen engineering, technology, sourcing, distribution and customer networks.
The companies are also exploring opportunities to introduce products in each other’s markets. Tata Motors is considering the local assembly of selected Iveco vehicles in India, initially through the semi-knocked-down route.
Growth Ambitions for the Next Five Years
Chandrasekaran said the combined business expects vehicle volumes, revenues and margins to increase over the next five years, although specific numerical targets have not yet been announced.
The partnership gives Tata Motors a significantly larger international footprint while providing Iveco access to Tata’s manufacturing scale and presence in emerging markets.
With combined operations, technology capabilities and a wider customer network, the two companies aim to strengthen their position in the rapidly changing global commercial vehicle industry.
