Singapore Airlines has announced a major upgrade to its aircraft cabins, investing more than S$2 billion (approximately US$1.6 billion) to introduce redesigned seating, improved entertainment systems and enhanced passenger services across its long-haul fleet. The highlight of the upgrade is a new First Class suite featuring a double bed that the airline describes as the largest in commercial aviation.

Singapore Airlines Spends Rs 15,000 Crore For World's Largest Bed Inside Aircraft

The new cabin designs were unveiled on November 6, 2026, and are expected to enter service progressively from the second half of 2027.

First Class Introduces Double Beds for Couples

The redesigned First Class suites will feature two adjoining seats that can be converted into a sofa or a fully flat double bed measuring 203 cm in length and 152 cm in width.

The suites will also include curved sliding doors to provide greater privacy, 32-inch 4K entertainment screens and Bang & Olufsen noise-cancelling headphones. Passengers will be able to dine together using arrangements designed to create a more shared experience.

According to Singapore Airlines Chief Commercial Officer Lee Lik Hsin, customer feedback played an important role in developing the new design. Research indicated that premium passengers increasingly wanted flexibility and opportunities to spend time together during flights.

Business Class Gets Privacy Doors and Improved Seating

Business Class passengers will also receive redesigned cabins featuring sliding privacy doors and fully flat beds.

The new seats will offer improved sleeping arrangements, wireless charging, Bluetooth connectivity and 22-inch 4K entertainment screens. Selected central seats will allow passengers travelling together to create companion sleeping spaces by adjusting the dividers.

The redesigned cabins aim to provide greater personal space while allowing passengers to customise their seating arrangements according to their preferences.

Economy and Premium Economy Also Receive Upgrades

The cabin overhaul extends to Premium Economy and Economy Class on the incoming Boeing 777-9 aircraft.

The redesigned seats will focus on improved legroom, reclining space, adjustable headrests and additional convenience features. Passengers will also benefit from upgrades to the KrisWorld entertainment platform, which will offer more than 2,500 entertainment options.

The airline is also planning more than 100 new and refreshed dishes across its cabin classes, alongside upgraded beverages and premium dining accessories.

Rollout Planned Across 72 Aircraft

The investment covers 41 Airbus A350-900 aircraft undergoing refurbishment and 31 Boeing 777-9 aircraft on order.

The new cabin products will be introduced progressively from the second half of 2027. The A350 long-haul aircraft will receive redesigned Business Class seats, while the ultra-long-range A350 aircraft will introduce First Class cabins for the first time.

Singapore Airlines is also planning to introduce Starlink satellite internet connectivity on selected aircraft from the first quarter of 2027.

The investment comes amid increasing competition among international airlines to attract premium travellers through improved onboard experiences.

Summary

Singapore Airlines is investing more than S$2 billion in a major cabin upgrade featuring the world’s largest commercial aviation double bed in First Class. The overhaul includes redesigned Business Class suites, improved Economy and Premium Economy seating, upgraded entertainment and dining services. The new cabins will progressively enter service from the second half of 2027 across 72 aircraft.
