Reliance Industries Ltd. (RIL) is gearing up to commence solar power generation in the first half of the next financial year (FY26) from its massive renewable energy project in Kutch, Gujarat. Spread across a staggering 5,50,000 acres—nearly three times the size of Singapore, this marks a monumental step in the conglomerate’s journey towards achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2035.

Reliance Will Start Generating Solar Power From Kutch Starting 1st Half Of 2026

A New Era in Reliance’s Green Energy Vision

Four years ago, Reliance Chairman Mukesh Ambani unveiled a $10 billion investment in a “new energy” business—signaling a decisive shift from the group’s petroleum legacy to clean energy innovation. This vision took form in the Dhirubhai Ambani Green Energy Giga Complex, a world-class integrated renewable energy manufacturing hub located in Jamnagar.

The complex, described as four times the size of Tesla’s gigafactory, boasts infrastructure on a truly massive scale—steel orders equivalent to 100 Eiffel Towers, and cabling long enough to “reach the moon and back,” as revealed by Anant Ambani at this year’s shareholder meeting.

Kutch: The Heart of India’s Largest Solar Project

In Kutch, Reliance is developing one of the world’s largest single-site solar power projects, spanning 5,50,000 acres of arid terrain. According to the company’s investor presentation, engineering and feasibility studies have been completed, and the project is in various stages of land development.

The company expects to commission solar generation in the first half of FY26, catering to its captive energy needs and green fuel production. The project will play a pivotal role in powering Reliance’s broader green initiatives, including green hydrogen and sustainable aviation fuel.

Expanding the Solar and Battery Manufacturing Chain

Reliance’s renewable energy roadmap spans solar photovoltaic (PV) manufacturing, battery storage, and green hydrogen production. The firm aims to set up 20GWp of solar PV manufacturing capacity and 100GWh of battery giga-factory capacity.

Currently, Reliance has commissioned four PV module lines, with its first cell line expected to be operational soon. The company plans to expand modularly, ensuring scalability and efficiency across the value chain—from polysilicon production to finished solar panels.

The solar PV manufacturing process involves several steps:

  • Polysilicon production from metallurgical-grade silicon
  • Ingot and wafer creation, forming the foundation of solar cells
  • Cell manufacturing, including doping, coating, and patterning
  • Module assembly, where multiple cells are laminated and mounted into panels

These solar panels will then be integrated into large-scale arrays across the Kutch site to capture maximum sunlight.

Battery Gigafactory: Enabling 24×7 Renewable Power

Since solar power is only available during daylight, Reliance is simultaneously building a Battery Energy Storage Giga-factory to ensure round-the-clock power supply. Work on this facility is progressing rapidly, with 40 GWh of manufacturing capacity already under development.

The company confirmed that construction and engineering milestones have been met, and production line equipment installation is underway, ensuring that Reliance stays on track to meet its renewable energy capacity targets.

Powering India’s Clean Energy Future

With a target to produce 3 million tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2032 and a focus on end-to-end domestic manufacturing of critical components like electrolysers and batteries, Reliance is laying the foundation for a self-reliant and sustainable energy future for India.

As Mukesh Ambani’s green vision accelerates, Reliance is not just transitioning itself—but is also shaping India’s position as a global renewable energy powerhouse.
