Pune Airport has emerged as the top performer among 16 Airports Authority of India (AAI) airports in the latest Airport Service Quality (ASQ) survey. The airport scored 4.98 out of 5 for the July–September 2026 quarter, improving slightly from its score of 4.97 in the previous quarter.

The survey, conducted by Airports Council International, measures passenger satisfaction with services such as check-in, security, cleanliness, staff assistance, navigation and food outlets. Pune’s score was higher than the average of 4.90 recorded by the 16 AAI airports and the global average of 4.36.

Pune Leads the AAI Airport Group

Pune was followed by Chennai and Patna, which both received scores of 4.94. Chennai recorded one of the largest improvements among the leading airports, increasing its score from 4.85 in the previous quarter.

Despite its high rating, Pune slipped one place in the global ranking, from 57th to 58th. This indicates that other airports improved their scores as well, even as Pune’s own passenger satisfaction rating edged up.

Strong Feedback Despite Capacity Constraints

The airport’s performance comes as it continues to handle heavy passenger traffic within a facility facing capacity constraints. Aviation analyst Dhairyashil Vandekar said the result showed stable service quality despite the airport handling more than 10 million passengers.

The survey found that 28 of the 31 service parameters scored above 4.60. However, some areas declined during the quarter. Ease of making connections fell by 0.25 points, while overall cleanliness dropped by 0.05 points.

These weaker scores could become important as the airport enters a new tariff control period. The Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA) determines charges such as user development fees, landing fees and parking fees. Passenger satisfaction data may be considered alongside the airport’s plans for future investment and service improvements.

Room for Improvement Remains

The high overall score does not mean every passenger has the same experience. The survey points to specific areas where the airport could improve, including internal circulation, seating, washroom maintenance and the availability of flight information.

The latest results provide a positive measure of passenger satisfaction, but Pune Airport will need to maintain service standards while addressing its capacity and facility challenges. Its next survey results will show whether the airport can sustain its strong rating and improve the areas where passengers reported a decline.
