Marques Brownlee, a popular tech YouTuber has released a video in which he compares smartphones like the Google Pixel 7 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, and more against one another in a blind camera test.

Pixel 6A Beats Every Flagship Smartphone In Blind Camera Test: Pixel 6A Better Than Pixel 7 Pro & iPhone 14 Pro?

The results may surprise readers.

The contest

There were a total of 16 smartphones with a vast majority of them being premium flagship grade devices.

Brownlee or as he is known on YouTube, MKBHD’s blind camera test received 21.2 million votes that divided the results between three categories.

The contest is one that he conducts each year that is typically based on a bracket system that attempts to crown a winner based on people’s votes.

How it went this year

This time it took into consideration various metrics such as various camera modes, prices, and more to help truly decide what might be the best smartphone camera available.

Another change this year was his data-based approach with dozens of phones and a custom website created to help score all of them in a head-to-head battle system for top spots in standard photos, night/low-light mode, and portrait mode.

Unexpected winner

The winner turned out to be the Google Pixel 6a after being pitted against major names like the Galaxy S22 Ultra, iPhone 14 Pro, and even the Pixel 7 Pro.

The device emerged as the winner of multiple rounds of voting by Brownlee’s massive audience.

This is particularly remarkable since the camera on the Pixel 6a is the same one that Google  has been using on the Pixel series since the Pixel 2.

Winners in other categories

In the standard test, the Oppo Find X5 Pro is the winner for regular shots.

The Pixel 7 Pro won in the portrait shots category.

The Vivo X80 Pro+ led the pack in the low light category.

How did the iPhone fare?

Funnily enough the Apple iPhone, devices renowned for their camera quality, the 14 Pro in this case saw some rather underwhelming results.

It got 6th place in the standard, 10th place in the low light, and 5th place in the portrait blind camera tests.

Top 3

The Pixel 6a, on the other hand, came first in the overall average rankings in a victory reminiscent of a David and Goliath battle.

The runner up was the Pixel 7 Pro and rounding up the top three list was the ASUS Zenfone 9.

Worst 3

On the other hand the worst of the lot turned out to be the Moto Edge 30 Ultra and the Sony Xperia 1 IV.

The Nothing Phone (1) comes the third last.
