The Centre has greenlit the inclusion of four crucial sectors—automobiles, electronics, consumer durables, and farming equipment—into the Right to Repair Portal India, aiming to enhance consumer convenience regarding service centres and warranty conditions. Notably, water purifier manufacturers have been directed to specify consumable lifespans based on geographical factors and water alkalinity.

Smartphones, Cars, TV, RO Now Covered Under Right To Repair: How To Get Warranty Info?

Standardised Warranty Forms and Expedited Repairs

To streamline consumer experiences, the government plans to introduce standardised product warranty forms, ensuring clarity and transparency in warranty terms. Additionally, players in the specified sectors have been instructed to accelerate repair processes, minimize delays, and control prices, alleviating financial burdens on consumers.

Understanding the ‘Right to Repair’ Concept

Operated by the Consumer Affairs Ministry, the right-to-repair portal facilitates consumer access to warranty information and service centre details provided by goods manufacturers. This initiative covers a wide array of products, including mobile devices, consumer goods, automobiles, and farming equipment, enabling consumers to access affordable repair services from both sellers and third-party providers.

Enhancing Product Lifespans and Reducing Environmental Footprint

The ‘right to repair’ initiative aims to prolong the lifespan of products, subsequently reducing environmental impact by encouraging consumers to utilize their devices for longer periods instead of resorting to frequent replacements. By fostering informed consumer decisions and ensuring full ownership of products, the initiative strives to prevent consumer deception in the absence of relevant repair information.

Utilizing the Right to Repair Portal

Consumers can easily access the right-to-repair portal by visiting https://righttorepairindia.gov.in/ and selecting their desired equipment category. From there, they can choose their equipment provider, which redirects them to the respective company page on the website. Here, consumers can find comprehensive details, including customer care contact information, authorized service centre lists, and multi-brand store information, facilitating seamless repair service access.
