Maharashtra Plans Charging Stations Across State

The Maharashtra government is planning to expand electric vehicle charging infrastructure across the state by setting up charging stations at MSRTC depots and Regional Transport Offices (RTOs).

The initiative is aimed at making EV charging more accessible and encouraging more people to shift from conventional vehicles to electric vehicles.

The announcement was made by Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik while flagging off Tata Motors’ electric trucks at the Tardeo RTO in Mumbai.

Charging Stations At MSRTC Depots And RTOs

Under the proposed plan, charging infrastructure will be developed at locations already spread across Maharashtra’s transport network.

MSRTC depots could provide strategically located charging points for electric buses and other vehicles, while RTO premises could serve as additional charging locations for EV users.

Using existing government transport infrastructure could help the state expand its charging network without depending entirely on new standalone sites.

Flyovers Could Also Get EV Chargers

The Maharashtra government is also considering installing EV charging stations at flyovers through a public-private partnership model.

According to the transport minister, a proposal for this initiative has already been sent to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for approval.

If approved, the model could bring charging infrastructure to more locations within urban areas and make charging more convenient for EV owners.

Government Wants More People To Switch To EVs

The state government is encouraging residents to shift towards electric vehicles as part of its efforts to reduce pollution.

MSRTC Targets Fully Electric Bus Fleet By 2036
