The 5-door Maruti Jimny, which is made in India, is sold in Japan under the name ‘Jimny Nomade.’ This model, launched recently in Japan, comes with a few additional features and color options compared to its India-spec counterpart. Within just one week of its launch, the Jimny Nomade received about 50,000 bookings, prompting Suzuki Japan to temporarily suspend further bookings to meet the overwhelming demand. The Japan-spec version is priced between 2,651,000 yen and 2,750,000 yen (approximately Rs 14.86 lakh to Rs 15.41 lakh).

Key Differences Between Japan-Spec and India-Spec Jimny Nomade
The Jimny Nomade’s exterior design is almost identical to the India-spec model, with the key differences being the introduction of two new color options: Chiffon Ivory Metallic with a black roof and Jungle Green. However, the iconic Kinetic Yellow, available in India, is not offered in the Japan-spec version. Inside, the cabin layout mirrors that of the India-spec Jimny, though it features a black and grey dual-tone upholstery. Additionally, the Japan-spec model comes with a slightly smaller touchscreen compared to its India counterpart.
The Jimny Nomade is equipped with extra features such as heated ORVMs (outside rear view mirrors), heated front seats, a 4-speaker sound system, push-button start/stop, cruise control, and automatic air conditioning. While the safety features, including 6 airbags, hill-hold and descent control, and rear parking sensors, are similar to those found on the India-spec model, the Japan-spec version introduces an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) for improved safety.
Power, Pricing, and Competition: India vs Japan-Spec Jimny
The 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine powers both the India and Japan versions of the Jimny. However, the Japan-spec model produces slightly less power, with 102 PS and 130 Nm of torque, while the India-spec version generates 105 PS and 134 Nm. Both variants come with a choice between a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission and are equipped with a 4-wheel-drive system.
In terms of pricing, the Japan-spec Jimny Nomade is slightly more expensive than the India-spec Maruti Jimny, which is priced between Rs 12.74 lakh and Rs 14.95 lakh. The Jimny competes with vehicles like the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha in India, providing a compact off-road experience with rugged capabilities.
Summary:
The 5-door Maruti Jimny, sold as the Jimny Nomade in Japan, offers additional features and color options compared to the India-spec model. Despite a slightly lower power output, it comes with features like heated seats and an advanced safety system. Priced higher than the India version, it competes with the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha.
