Jio Platforms, the telecom and digital services business controlled by Reliance Industries, has attracted unprecedented institutional investor interest ahead of its much-anticipated initial public offering (IPO). The company’s anchor investor book received bids worth approximately ₹2.5 lakh crore, more than 30 times the amount available, setting a new benchmark for Indian IPOs.

Jio Platforms IPO Gets Record Rs 2.5 Lakh Crore in Bids from Investors

The strong response highlights investor interest in Jio’s enormous customer base, digital ecosystem and potential for growth in artificial intelligence, broadband and enterprise technology services.

Jio Platforms IPO: Key Details

Jio Platforms is seeking to raise approximately ₹30,213 crore through its IPO, which is scheduled to open for public subscription on October 21 and close on October 23, 2026.

The price band has been set at ₹1,065 to ₹1,119 per share. At the upper end of the range, the company could be valued at approximately $108 billion, making the offering India’s largest IPO to date.

Before the public issue, Jio allotted shares worth ₹8,109.85 crore to 212 anchor investors at ₹1,119 per share. The anchor book is reserved for institutional investors who receive share allocations before the public subscription period begins.

The proposed IPO comprises a fresh issue of up to 27 crore equity shares. The proceeds are intended primarily to support debt repayment at its telecom subsidiary, Reliance Jio Infocomm, with the remaining amount allocated to general corporate purposes.

Global Investment Giants Show Strong Interest

The anchor book attracted bids from some of the world’s largest investment firms, including BlackRock, Fidelity Investments, Capital Group, T. Rowe Price, Franklin Templeton and JPMorgan Asset Management.

Sovereign wealth funds and public investment institutions, including Singapore’s GIC, the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority and Norway’s Norges Bank Investment Management, also participated.

Indian mutual funds, insurance companies and pension funds were among the other investors seeking allocations. Domestic mutual funds accounted for a substantial share of the final anchor allocation, demonstrating interest from both international and Indian institutional investors.

The demand is significant because institutional investors typically assess a company’s financial performance, competitive position, growth prospects and valuation before committing substantial capital.

Why Investors Are Interested in Jio

Jio Platforms has grown from a telecom-focused business into a broader digital services ecosystem. Its operations include mobile connectivity, broadband, digital entertainment, cloud services and enterprise technology solutions.

The company had approximately 533.3 million subscribers as of June 2026 and carried nearly 60% of India’s data traffic, according to reported figures.

Its future growth opportunities include increasing average revenue per user, expanding 5G adoption, home broadband, artificial intelligence and digital services for businesses. These opportunities could help Jio generate more revenue from its existing customer base while expanding into higher-value technology services.

Will Strong Anchor Demand Guarantee IPO Gains?

Not necessarily. Anchor investor demand is an important indicator of institutional interest, but it does not guarantee that retail investors will subscribe in similar numbers or that the shares will rise after listing.

Investors must also consider Jio’s valuation, competitive pressures, regulatory requirements, capital expenditure and dependence on its telecom business. The company’s ability to convert its scale and technology investments into sustainable earnings will be important for its long-term performance.

The public subscription period will provide a clearer picture of demand across retail and other investor categories.

What the IPO Means for India’s Stock Market

The offering represents a major test of India’s capacity to absorb a large public issue. It will also provide investors with a direct opportunity to own shares in Jio Platforms rather than gaining exposure to the business only through Reliance Industries.

If successful, the listing could strengthen India’s capital markets and establish a new benchmark for large technology-sector IPOs.

Summary

Jio Platforms’ anchor investor book attracted approximately ₹2.5 lakh crore in bids, more than 30 times the ₹8,110 crore allocation. The company plans to raise around ₹30,213 crore through an IPO opening on October 21, 2026, at ₹1,065–₹1,119 per share. Global investment firms, sovereign funds and Indian institutions participated, although strong anchor demand does not guarantee listing gains.
