This one is a big one, for all the “iSheeps”, as a renowned Apple analyst, Mark Gurman said that with the next iOS 17 shall enable the Apple users to sideload apps, which the company has been categorically opposed to ever since its inception.
Now, that is yet to be confirmed though, but yes the speculations are rife that with iOS 17, the bricks of the sideloading can be laid.
Speculations on Apple Allowing Sideloading in iOS17
What makes the chances brighter is also the EU’s new Digital Market Act is coming into effect in 2024 and requires companies to allow users to install apps from alternative sources.
What it would mean that the Apple users will now be able to install apps from app stores different from its own official App Store.
It is still yet to be seen how the phone maker handles this situation.
We will know more about this during the company’s annual WWDC conference, where watchOS is rumoured to steal the spotlight with massive changes.
Sneak Peek into Some iOS17 Features
While the question of sideloading takes the centre stage, let’s have a sneak peek into what the iOS17 shall have differently.
A “tuneup” update focused on fixing bugs and improving performance, iOS17, shall more than be just a version upgrade as it will entail several “nice to have features.”
Control Center
As per source on the MacRumors forums that has accurately predicted Apple’s plans in the past, “major” change shall be the built-in Control Center.
This is a major update after the launch of iOS 11 in 2017.
Dynamic Island
The new improved Dynamic Island, as per Apple shall be able to “do a lot more.”
Rumours said that Apple’s marketing team pressurized the development team to add more functionality to the Dynamic Island as the more affordable iPhone 15 models will support the feature when they launch.
Active Widgets
Though the feature is not confirmed by any means, but the speculations are doing rounds that Apple is “testing” active widgets for the Home Screen.
If implemented, active widgets could include one-tap buttons, sliders, and more, with the aim of making widgets more dynamic and interactive.
Performance and Stability
The raison d’être of any update is to enhance the performance, efficiency, and stability of the system. This is the cynosure of the update and Apple will also work on long-term support for older devices. Early betas may be unstable on some devices that have 3GB RAM, but Apple is expected to improve stability significantly over the course of the beta testing period.
