Earlier, the media has reported that, Indian IT giant, Infosy, has called on workers to work from home for at least three days a week as the company wants to make it mandatory soon.
Infosys Requests Employees To Return To Office
Now, the country’s second-largest technology outsourcing business by market value’s management appears to be dissatisfied with several delivery units (DUs) as they were frequently empty.
Because of this, Infosys has requested a quick attendance at campuses as the company operates offshore development centers (ODCs) for clients.
This decision is largely impacted by the fact that Infosys co-founder NR Narayana Murthy has repeatedly mentioned 70-hour work weeks as their way to boost productivity and economic growth.
It is noteworthy here that the “the Bengaluru-based software company has, however, offered to consider requests from employees who have health-related issues on a case-by-case basis,” according to the sources.
Prior to this, the IT giant said, “Please start coming to office at least 3 days a week. It will become mandatory very shortly,” in an email from vertical heads.
Further, the technology major has expressed their unhappiness for the slow response to their repeated return-to-work requests.
According to the company, “The three years of work-from-home arrangements following the COVID-19 outbreak had been sufficient.”
Adding, “now employees must begin reporting to work, with the exception of medical emergencies.”
Although, “The company has offered to consider requests from employees who have health-related issues on a case-by-case basis,” said the sources.
Wipro & TCS Following Suit
Other IT companies such as Wipro have also warned its employees of “consequences” for repeated violations of its hybrid work policy in which they will have to show up to work three days a week.
According to this warning by Wipro, an action will be taken on January 7, this could result in the denial or withholding of some benefits, sources confirmed.
In a statement, Wipro spokeswoman stated that they would use a mixed work strategy.
India’s largest software services provider, Wipro spokeswoman(TCS) is not much behind as it has already returned to normal office hours.
Further, Infosys mentioned the resumed charging for bus services on January 3rd, with a daily price of Rs 150 and a monthly ceiling of Rs 1,500, in a subsequent email.
“The health club facilities too would invite a charge of Rs 100 per day with a monthly cap of Rs 700, effective January 1,”mentioned in the email.
