Travel has been on everyone’s mind and has increased further Post Covid and be it public transportation or taxis to explore new destinations or be it driving, everyone’s all revved up about the idea.
For the latter, there are many Indians who want to travel by roads to various countries and in this story we are covering all such countries where in the Indian license is valid:
1. United States of America: The first and foremost is “Uncle Sam” or the “Land of opportunities” and this one country is definitely on the list of every Indian. When it comes to driving, then Indian licenses are valid for one year upon entry into the country. The catch is that the license should be in English and they are also supposed to carry an attested I-94 form to prove their lawful entry.
2. Australia: Indian driving license is valid up to a year in Australia, but in Northern Australia the validity duration is shorter. It is also recommended to have an international driving permit.
3. Canada: The land of maple syrup allows Indian citizens to drive up to 60 days, post which they are asked to produce a separate permit. Additionally, unlike India, Vehicles are driven on the right side of the road.
4. United Kingdom: “Old Blighty” offers a year of validity for the Indian license when it comes to England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. While the driving is on the left side, they are only handful vehicle classes which are permitted.
5. New Zealand: The Land of the Long White Cloud allows a year of driving, post which a New Zealand license or international permit is necessary. The license must be in English and the driver has to be above 21 years of age.
6. Switzerland: The Land of Milk and Honey offers Indian license holders a year of validity on driving. The vehicles are to be driven on the right side of road.
7. Germany: Deutschland offers six months of validity for licenses in English or German. Post 6 months, an international permit or German license shall be required.
8. France: The Hexagon of the world offers the license to be valid up to a year, however the translation to French is necessary. Driving is on the right side of the road.
9. South Africa: The Rainbow nation offers one-year validity for license in English language. For renting the vehicles, international permit is required.
10. Sweden: The Land of Vikings offers one-year validity for Indian driving licenses in English and few other approved languages.
Notably, though the above countries recognize the Indian driving licenses, but when one attains an International Driving License or Permit (IDP) from your local Regional Transport Office (RTO), then the doors to few of other additional countries open as well.
