In response to Pakistani military attacks on several Indian border districts, India’s civil aviation sector has moved into high alert. On Thursday night, airlines across the country issued advisories urging passengers to reach airports at least three hours before their scheduled departures due to heightened security protocols.

Airlines Issue Urgent Travel Advisories

IndiGo, Akasa, and other carriers published alerts on social media, notifying flyers of tightened security. Indigo stated that in these extraordinary times, passengers should expect longer wait times due to additional screening measures. Akasa Air reinforced the need to reach early and adhere to luggage limitations — only one cabin bag up to 7 kg per person will be allowed. All passengers must carry valid ID and will undergo secondary security checks before boarding.

BCAS Orders Nationwide Security Enhancements

The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) directed all airports and airlines to enhance safety following the border incident. This includes mandatory secondary ladder point security checks for all passengers, a ban on visitor entry into terminal buildings, and increased deployment of air marshals.

Major Flight Disruptions Across India

As a result of increased tension, 28 airports across India were closed to commercial traffic until Saturday morning. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) issued two NOTAMs (Notices to Airmen), triggering massive cancellations. At Delhi Airport alone, 90 flights were scrapped between 8 am and 2 pm on Thursday.

India Thwarts Missile Attack, Activates Air Defence

The escalation began Thursday evening when air raid sirens and explosions were heard in Jammu and Punjab. Pakistan targeted Indian military stations in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur using missiles and drones. However, India’s air defence systems successfully intercepted eight incoming missiles, with no casualties reported. Blackouts were imposed across several border states as a precaution.

Conclusion

As tensions escalate between India and Pakistan, air travel across the country faces significant disruption. The aviation and defence sectors are on alert, and passengers are urged to cooperate with authorities, plan accordingly, and stay updated on the latest travel advisories.
