Google is enhancing the Gemini app with an AI Image Editing tool that lets users modify both AI-generated visuals and personal photos.
According to Phonearena, the tool allows users to add or remove objects, make specific changes, or modify images as needed.

With the update, users can:
- Add or delete elements from a photo
- Change image backgrounds
- Merge two photos into one
- Apply creative edits like changing hair color or personal appearance
Users can also request fun ideas from Gemini, such as:
- Creating a bedtime story with corresponding AI images
- Editing photos to appear as if taken at the beach or in outer space
Google ensures transparency and security by adding SynthID watermarks to all AI-edited and AI-generated images.
These invisible watermarks help identify that an image has been altered using AI technology.
Google is also experimenting with visible watermarks for added clarity.
David Sharon, Group Product Manager for Gemini Apps, said the feature supports multi-step editing, making transformations look smooth and realistic.
The update supports 45 languages, making it easier for users worldwide to collaborate and edit images for personal or professional use.
The feature is being rolled out in multiple countries, expanding Gemini’s global reach.
To demonstrate the tool, Google shared an example featuring a dalmatian on grass:
- First, a yellow cap is added to the dog
- Then, the background is swapped from a lawn to a beach
- The edits are so seamless that it’s difficult to detect any alteration.
Google Integrating Gemini In iPhone
Google appears to be very close to striking a deal with Apple to integrate Gemini into the iPhone.
Earlier, Google CEO Sundar Pichai confirmed the company expects to strike a Gemini deal with Apple by the middle of this year and suggested it would roll out by the end of 2025 during the search monopoly trial on Wednesday.
With this integration, it would presumably allow Siri to call on Gemini to answer more complex questions.
This is going to be similar to the integration that Apple launched with OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
