Long critiqued for playing too safe, Samsung recently held a high-level meeting acknowledging consumer discontent regarding iterative upgrades in premium Galaxy smartphones like the new S24 line. Executive chairman Lee Jae-Yong presided the summit of various department heads.

He highlighted scathing video feedback from users played in the meeting, urging those present to pursue a more customer-centric approach going forward. This includes focusing on advanced functionality like AI.

Calls For Meaningful Innovation

While Galaxy S models consistently upgrade core hardware annually, critics allege a lack of meaningful innovation beyond that – a nudged-along familiar recipe. The Galaxy S24 series also drew flak as recycled S23 phones with some AI sprinkles.

After airing customer criticisms directly to senior leaders, chairman Lee has signaled addressing stagnating innovation in upcoming Galaxy flagships. But translating this into actual groundbreaking features remains to be seen.

Potential Camera And Design Upgrades

As per leaks, Samsung may opt for Sony camera sensors in the Galaxy S25 and S25+ instead of retaining in-house ISOCELL tech. The S25 Ultra is tipped to feature variable optical zoom alongside a periscope lens with superior image quality. And the Galaxy S26 Ultra could pioneer a 1-inch sensor – the largest ever in a Samsung phone.

Foldables like Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 are also expected to undergo weight loss and screen size boosts. But the jury is out whether the new directions genuinely disrupt Samsung’s traditionally glacial Galaxy phone update cycle.
