The American multinational technology conglomerate, Meta Platforms Inc. is all set to launch a new subscription service for its virtual reality headsets.
Meta Launches New Subscription Service For Virtual Reality Headsets
The same is confirmed by Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg.
On Monday, he said that Meta Quest will cost $7.99 per month for access to two gaming titles each month on his Instagram channel.
Moving to the Meta’s VR subscription, it is available for the Meta Quest 2 and Quest Pro.
The new subscription service was announced for Quest VR headset users by Mark Zuckerberg.
Meta Quest+ is priced at $7.99 a month which offers free games and additional VR content for its subscribers.
Besides this, Meta will continue to add two new VR games every month starting this August.
It is noteworthy here that the Meta Quest+ subscription is applicable for Quest 2 and Quest Pro users and also compatible with the upcoming Quest 3.
People who are interested in owning this can buy a Quest+ subscription from the Meta Quest store starting today (June 26) for $7.99 a month or for $59.99 a year.
The deal gets better for the first-time subscribers as they can get the Quest+ subscription for just $1 for the first month.
For the unawares, the Meta Quest series of VR headsets are known for offering an affordable virtual reality experience.
In order to deliver an immersive user experience, the company has recently announced the Quest 3 with improved tracking technology.
According to the speculations, people will see the Quest 3 VR headset on sale starting this fall.
With this launch the Meta Quest+ subscribers will get to enjoy games like Pixel Ripped 1995 and Pistol Whip.
In coming times the company will be adding titles like Walkabout Mini Golf and Mothergunship: Forge in August.
The best part is the users get to keep these titles as long as they are subscribers.
In case they take a break between subscriptions still they will regain access to all their content.
A New Scheme To Make Money
It appears that the VR subscription is the latest way Meta is trying to make money from its headsets, after disappointing sales.
As we know, Meta slashed the prices of its VR headsets by up to 33%, during March.
Later on, the company lowered the price of its Quest 2 headset a second time in June when the company announced the launch of its Quest 3, which is about to debut in September.
It seems that Meta is still losing money on its virtual reality ambitions.
To start with, the social media company lost $13.7 billion in its Reality Labs division, the part of the company that makes virtual reality technology last year.
